How would this look for VSF scenery?
« on: March 22, 2010, 08:52:21 PM »
Browsing on the net looking for source material for cardstock buildings I found some very interesting inspiration.
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=76390

My brother is a bit of a wiz with 3D rendering and I know there are a few programmes to turn 3D models into cardstock models.
What do you think? Any potential?

I am new to VSF, but it looks really nice.

 :o

What couldn't you do with it? I can't see where (if) it mentions scale (too busy staring in slack-jawed wonder at the pretty pictures) but if it's even close to the right size for 25s or 28s, I be very happy for my British, Ruritanians, adventurers, things from the sewers, Daleks and whatnot to run around there.

Very nice. Looks a little American for some reason that I can't quite place but very cool.
So many projects..... so little time.......

It's too tidy, and there aren't any drunken fellers startin' fights, or prostitutes in back alleys.

Apart from that, I think it's grand.

Too clean, too tidy and the buildings aren't all random heights.

American view of London I think.

However, for a fictional London, they're fine!  :)

It looks fine, not sure abou the Mansard roofs on several of the buildings though.

My favourite source for inspiration is the background on the home page of Dicken's World at Chatham.  ;D
Must go there one of these days.

They look good but i would agree they need to be a bit dirtier to fit in.

That's a bit creepy actually!

Whenever I hear about Chatham, all I can think about is the artist, Billy Childish...

Don't think it actually says it's London to be fair. It could be New York (doesn't look right for New York to me) or Boston or Bristol for that matter.

I reckon as a generic late-19th (or even early 20th) century street, in an unspecific English-speaking city, I think it's pretty cool.

I like it but agree that it feels American. With Irish theme bars on ground level! It could be made more so and be used for Gangsters etc.

Not bad at all but looks early Victorian to me. I always think of later Victorian shops as this, festooned with advertising and awnings:

Sorry about the crap quality.
Don't!

I have to agree that it looks too clean and regular ( and a little American!!) but I'm still tempted to get the files for DAZ Poser and let my bro play with them.
I'm looking at doing a decent sized table set up( 6'X4') but really don't want the expense of resin and the months involved in scratchbuilding. I'm pretty certain it wouldn't be too difficult putting together some cardstock buildings with the only real expense being the initial outlay for the 3d files ( and ink and card).
The hobby seems to be full of medieval type buildings, sci-fi or American modern structures in card but very little suitable for 19th century UK streets. Maybe it's too narrow a market but I'm sure a set of card buildings for VSF would generate some interest.
A straight "Real Victorian" set would be good but the benefit of printed card is that the basic "skins" can be changed for a more gothic or steampunk feel if required.
Anyhow, i've got some leave at Easter so I will probably have a good bash at putting something together.

Regards
