Hi, I post some pics of our last Jar Wars game, as The Necromanctic Navy engaged capt. Maxx's dirty dogs on a treasure island. Take care.

I can never get white robes to look like that.

What is your secret? Any painting tips?

Looks like a khaki base with mucho blending up to a white highlight.

If I tried that it would look rubbish

I think that's the fanatic army painter - soft tone

I have the strong tone, which works very well on most subjects, but I never realised the soft tone was this effective

You make me blush, people, it's a damn silly technique. Here it goes: white basecoat, add any other colour. Let dry. Apply a mix of:

1/2 water
1/4 Vallejo black glaze
1/4 Vallejo slow dry

Let dry. Over.

With a little practise you are going to paint 10 miniatures like that in an hour. The magic dip is an option, but you don't always want the brownish hue to show. I'm told the new GW Glazes do the job as well.
