Got the bulk of the armes for the game at salute, hope anyone who went had a good time.

Started assembling my martian walker. Will post pics of it soon but it comprises of two polystyrene eggs side by side with cardboard filling the gap, with plastic swizzlestics for legs. Ive adopted the Jeff Wayne design style. It stands about 6" high.

Will try post a pic this evening.

Hope to have the asteroid iron coats done at least by the end of this week. May even get the paint job done.

Anyhow pics will follow this evening.

Saw the pic, it looks great! I think you should post a closeup of the walker too!  :)

Will do

Jusr bought some 1/4 Nyodidium ball magnets for the tripod walkers feet. I think that they should have enougth gauss to hold the tripod to the Asteroid.

IN the LOS critical astroidgame. The tripodis a real advantage to the martions, as its extended hight gives it a further range. That said its also visible to British cannon.

I hope those magnets work, the downside to doing something new is that you have nothing to guestimate by.

Your right that the walkers should offer a very nice strategic variety with their height.

It will...

Just ordered some shperical magnets to replace the plastic ends of the swizzle-sticks (legs). I think once their in place it should have no problem sticking. The tripod configuration is a blessing because you shouldnt have any legs sticking up in the air.

This has to be the most insane project I've ever seen on LAF, and that's saying something!  Truly astounding!

Just a few new pics.

This is the Tripod on the side of the asteroid:

And this is the tripod on the bottom:

This test has the tripod with neididium magnets whitetaced to the feet. I will glue them propperly later.

As i write this post, the tripod has been attached to the asteroid for about 10 minutes.

Also note the legs have been redone, on accuont of them being rubbish before.

Had a fun filled eveing basing all the 18mm i got with magnets.

Actually 12mm disc magnets make good bases for 15/18mm. Used 20mm for cannon/ cavalry, but may need a rethink as there a bit broad to make good asteroid contact.

Got some Black hat wild haggis too. May use them as asteroid beasts to add a bit of spice to the game.

Playing a 2D game with the armies today, will try take a few pics.

Mansworth, you crazily insane nutter: this is absolutely brilliant!

Definitely the most original idea IŽve ever encountered in wargaming. As someone else said previously: this idea must be copied ad infinitum. I think IŽll end up doing it Spelljammer-style...

Looking forward to following your journey.

My God, I could game The Clangers* using this idea.

Does anyone make a mini of the Soup Dragon, the Iron Chicken, or teh Froglettes? Not to mention the Clangers theselves?

I did research Clangers. As far as I know, there isn't anything that is the right scale.

Mr Alderman, any suggestions?
