Not sure if this will be any help but the WGF plastic zombies provided the basis of the 18thC conversions used in my French & Indian Zombie War entry for round 5 of the LPL.

See the LPL thread.  Alternatively, there are some more images on my blog, which also include historical miniatures by (I think) Perry, Conquest and Crusader.

It follows that I think the WGF zombies can make great conversion fodder but 'as is' they are a budget product which can be made to look okay with the time investment of a lot of effort.

if you just want a cheap horde there's always the 'bag o' zombies from Zombies the board game.
ok they are 25mm  rather than 28 but it will pad out your horde

Very tiny when used together and static though, (two poses I think + zombie dogs in one pose).

Any one know how they look next to other 28mm figs? Are they worth it?

The scale looks fine for zombies, they are a bit slight but look ok next to Cold War zombies (who are also a bit slight). Here's a pic with four of them:

The two in front (brown shirt and white shirt) are WGF, as is the one in the white boxers with red hearts (top right) and in blue shorts with white white shirt (top left).

I had twelve of them (two sprues) which I painted. Their soft detail made painting a bit of a chore, and after having them done I had no desire to do any more. That said, now that they're painted I quite like them on the table among my other zombies.

So are they worth it? Well, for me twelve of them was worth it but it was also enough, it's a personal matter I guess ;)

Hey, those are my LNoE figures :D

The paint job on those was an experiment froma couple of years ago, just a base coat and "dip".  I really must go back and do them properly again at some stage.

Although made of soft plastic the LNoE figures take paint fine: no chips or cracks as yet.

I also think that they scale fine with most 28mms out there.  As already mentioned they are a little slight, like Cold Wars zombies.

They mix very well with Studio Miniatures as well.

I've not tried painting mine, although I did paint up all the A Touch of Evil Characters.
