The Defense of Wolvechapel, Oxfordshire.
« on: April 18, 2010, 01:07:28 PM »
Two forces clashed in the countryside of Oxfordshire 2 weeks ago. A bitter battle was fought between out valiant British from Mars, the Queens Electric Rifles and the devious Prussians led by the Mad Inventor Captain Lindemann.
The British fought to the bitter end until one of our brave aeronefs came to save the brave few who remained from what was otherwise destined to be total obliteration from this, and any other world.

An overview of the Battle,

The game was played using the Normal GASLIGHT rules, not Battles, just the normal one, this was just a test game to see how it went and it was very fun!

The Devious Prussians led by Lindemann, who does not appear in this photograph. His regiment of Automatons are also out of view behind their crude land ironclad.

The brave men of Wolvechapel, the town is under-garrisoned and was in no way ready for the onslaught which those fiends from Prussia were about to bring.

The first advance of the Prussians. Their Jaeger marched out in front of their men, tempting our guns.

And tempt them they did as our guns were hidden in the stock bushes that grow in the Oxfordshire countryside.

Our men prepared for the Prussians by forming line at the entrace to the town.

The Dastardly Lindemann, how he got this far into our territory, is completely unknown. We think he may have gotten into this great country by anarchists who seek nothing but the destruction of order in our glorious land.

A view of the British commanding Officer, Hannah.

The two countries' steam tanks looked at each other, guessing who was going to fire first.  Both unaware that their weapons were totally useless against each other, they realised this after several salvos of their machinated rifle-cannons (otherwise known as 'gatling guns' amongst the 'squaddies'). and chose to move onto better targets...

The British cannons had destroyed all but a few jaegers of the Prussian column. Those last few were sent in relentlessly against our gunfire. Those horrific officers of the Prussian army must have no soul, no care for their own kin. Alas, they were swept down like leaves in the breeze.

Our great steam-walker, devised by the American inventor, Edison, based on the designs left to us by the martians in their attack, led an assault on Captain Lindemann and his Automaton, a heroic deed indeed. Lindemann was soon felled by his own stupidity, attempting to destroy our vast machine with his bare hands! several Automatons were also destroyed in the assault, but one of them struck back in it's death throes and our vast machine crumpled at one of it's legs and crunched down to the ground with a great hissing sound and a great boom that quaked the very earth, sending several tiles in the town to come crashing from their rooves scattering amongst our soldiers garrisoned in the town.

We began to think all was lost. Nothing could have saved those few of us that remained. The enemy steamtank trundeled past our brave men and ran into the entrance of the town, scattering, with great ease, our men aside. With a great rattling sound, the gatling gun let out several bursts of fire and slayed several more British soldiers, but within seconds, the great sound of an aeronef overhead came... The sound of safety. The great 'nef let down it's ropes for us to clamber amongst and the brave men of her majesties (god bless 'er) Royal Aerial Navy fired incessantly at those evil Prussians. Ensuring the safety of Wolvechapel.

And thus, preperation MUST be made to avoid these truly disgusting and evil men from entering our great lands ever again. We must wage war with these evil people and we must ensure Lindemann's destruction. He was not found amongst the wreckage of our great steam-walker. Not even any evidence as to where his body may have laid or any indication of his weaponry. One fears he has run away and joined the anarchists who operate in the area. God help us if he has.

Very nice looking game and report.

Nice report Rob.

Where does your Lindemann figure come from?

Who makes the prussians?

The ones painted blue look to be Warrior/Over the Wire - England Invaded.

Not sure about the Jagers.  :?

Thanks for the kind comments.

Yes, there will be a follow up for this game being played on Friday.

Lindemann? Why, Germany of course!

Nah, he is a Mad Scientist from the Deadlands range, available from Jeff Valent Studios. Lovely model, a little on the large side, but he is a character.
I have a second one sitting in some cillit bang, recieving a stripping. He will be Lindemann's twin brother... Might give him a different weapon, maybe a disintegrator gun like the ones in Edison's conquest of Mars...  :)

Yup, the Jaegers are Ironclad, the Line Infantry are Over the Wire (warrior miniatures), England Invaded Germans with pickelhaubs, but the second unit, which was not really photographed was renegade WW1 germans, very nice models that I am painting the basecoats of now.  :)
