Anyone for Perry plastic Fuzzy-Wuzzies / Ansar?
« on: April 24, 2010, 04:34:24 PM »
Well, just back from Salute, where I had a chat with Alan and Michael Perry, and the news is:

WOTR 2nd box (Mercs) - main frame gone for tooling, command frame not quite finished yet. At least 6 months or so before they become available. I reckon we'll be lucky to see them much this side of Christmas.

Happily, there will definitely be a 3rd WOTR plastic box, and it will be fully armoured cavalry (mounted knights). Hobilars and lighter cavalry types will be made in metal. No ETA on this 3rd WOTR box, but sounds like at least a year away. Maybe by next Salute!

Meanwhile, the two mystery 'next boxes' will be:

1. Plastic Ansar for the Sudan - generic bodies, with lots of head, shield and weapon choices to enable Arab / Beja / Hadendowah tribesmen all to be built from the same box.

2. ACW zouaves. Not my thing, but the couple of 'three-ups' they had on display looked rather nice.

…and these two mystery boxes should be available when?

I'm might be interested in some ACW Zouaves (bet they could be useful for the VSF fans too) ;D

The ansar are the first plastics which have me salivating.  I do NOT have many ansar painted up, and don't even have unpainted lead !   I will be buying these plastics.

Plastic Ansar with arab heads and zouaves could make for some interesting colonial games....

What is WOTR? I'm thinking War of the Ring, but that doesn't make sense.

War of the Roses.

Plastic Ansar is a shrewd move and could finally give me the incentive I needed to dive into their beautiful Sudan Line. I can envision the thin khaki line facing off a true horde of those finely detailed beauties. Of course I'm not sure when I would have the time to paint that horde...

I was thinking WOTR was War of the Ring also.... :)
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

I've found that Perry Ansar paint quite quickly, even when varying the shade of off-white to use on the various bits of clothing. The key thing is that there's not a lot of kit, unlike any European soldier from 1700 on.

Do I want some of these?  :o

Do bears shit in the woods?   lol

Fantastic news! I've got loads of Perrys' Beja and have been considering which company's "Ansar" to buy as my next Sudan army.  Presumably these will be in Jibbahs? That's what I really want, so fantastic if they are, but if they are the un-uniformed earlier versions, then still good news.

Plastic Zouaves, too  :D

Just what I need as Sultan's Guards for my Darkest Africa Arab forces.
Having these two pieces of good news, along with finding the Raiders have finally acquired a really good quarterback (Jason Campbell) in the draft have really cheered me up before I start back to work this morning.

Thanks for that, Cap'n!
