Battle at the Edge of the Taklamakan
« on: April 21, 2010, 01:37:28 PM »
On the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, a large force of White Russian troops looks to push its way through Warlord held territory and south into India. The British do not want the destabilizing presence of Russian military forces trying to carve out their own territory in India and so have sent a token force to support the Chinese "governor" of the area. It is also possible, according to intelligence, that some Afghans may have been sent to prevent the Russians from heading west into their country.

We had another game of Contemptible Little Armies: Back of Beyond last night. There were about 1100 points of White Russians attacking a fortified position of Warlord Chinese, British, and a unit of Afghans (about 600 points). The defenders had a trench line that the Whites had to take in order to win.

Below is a shot of the White Cavalry. They were the only unit to reach the trench line when we called the game a draw (it really could have gone either way).

These are the Afghan (center) and Chinese defenders (left flank).

The British allies holding the right flank.

The Whites after their first two turns of movement. Because the Warlord force had 2 static barrages, the troops deployed very spread out.

A White Russian unit tries to avoid fire from a British Rolls Royce. The Rolls spent a lot of the game trying to avoid anything that could hurt it, but it did harass many different units.

The Russian Cavalry attacks the Chinese HMG position. Some Dare to Die troops race out of the trench to help. The high morale on the cavalry saved them as they took a lot of casualties on the way in.

The Chinese Irregular cavalry charges some Russians in the open. Defensive fire by the Russians was ineffective, but they did manage to eliminate the cavalry and prepare for further advance.

He does.

I hope to show some of what I have painted shortly (as soon as I finish). Maybe not as good as his, but hopefully passable.  :)

Great pic's, looked like a fun game.  Makes me think I should start a BoB force in the future.  More lead must have more lead......

Great figures but the battlefield is maybe a little underwhelming.

These are still pick-up games where we try and get the rules down, figures getting painted and scenery built. There will be some nice "dragon bones" scenery in tonight's game (though the rest of the terrain will be underwhelming).

Feel free to criticize. We're all adults here and can take it... maybe.  :(
