as far as i know he is working on a u.s. distributor.
i need questions for my interview so it would be great if you could compile your questions and i will pick the best ten

1. Is there any plans for a demo set, a lot of people feel it is better to have a preview before they dish out the dollar.
for example.

but i do know that the printers messed him around a lot. as for the printing i can say this. its sharp, excellent quality, with a binding that should last the ages. and it has full color custom art throughout. i asked him during a game fo the rules yesterday what he was most surprised about setting up a new business and he mentioned the art, he spent A LOT on art.

so QUESTIONS PEOPLE! and i can get you good solid podcast interview answers.

Went and read all the web pages.  Some thoughts.

A lot of work went into this product.  While that does not guarantee success the opposite guarantees failure.

Clearly 14 GBP postage, not 20.

The pages shown on the site tells me part of the reason for the high page count - loss of text space for "pretty color pictures/backgound fluff."

Wow, really high production quality (equals higher costs.)

All of the factions have been done before (even before Starguard) so these rules will need to be the best integration of the factions yet or have completely new approaches to groups in the game to get past the "Been There/Done That" syndrome.

Okay, questions:

1)  Is the world "locked" or will there be more factions (aliens, new groups) introduced at a later date?

2) How easy is it to create a force/faction that stands out as somehow different from the default factions?  "Give an example" would be informative.

3) How many pages are used for the actual rules (core/optional rules breakdown would be great) as opposed to Weapons lists/descriptions, Army lists, scenario descriptions, etc.?

4) What game mechanics will players of various rules sets be familiar with when they read the rules (for example GZG players, among others, understand opposed rolls) and what mechanics will be similar but different due to innovation/tweaking.

There's a start.

Gracias,

Glenn

It would be good to read a detailed battlereport that tells a bit more on the rules.

Yeah, £25 is steep but I guess it is 190 pages,

Within every padded-out set of rules, there is a simple set struggling to get out - it never ceases to amaze me that rules writers equate quality with the number of pages in their rule books.

If you can't sum up the dynamics of a game on a side of A4, don't write them - of course, its very difficult to charge for that....

The game does sum up into one small A4 sumary sheet. (it is double sided but the other side is a list alphebeticly of all of the quirks like "fleet footed").

the rules work with a basic mechanic,
1. movement
2. action
3. shooting
4. combat

and its pretty simple like, if you dodge a bullet in the other players turn you can't take an action next turn or sprint but you can run or walk.

each character gets a move of (ussualy) 4 inches or a run of 8 or a sprint of 16.
if a character sprints it cannot shoot (i think) or throw a grenade.

actions include things such as medic, finisher move (wherein a character has to roll anything but a one on 1d6 to "finish" off a bad guy.)

the rules are'nt complicated for most games but it takes a few turns to pick it up.
and the ready calculated roster's are perfect.

His extensive use of EE miniatures on the website, be they converted or not, will surely bring down their wrath on his head....

Otherwise, I think that the fluff and description of the system makes it sound interesting.. but interesting enough for spending £39...? Dunno...

i think he has used them in the book. so he has no doubt looked into the logistics of using them.

It is pricey.  If it's printed in the UK will it be anything like those atrocious GW hardbounds?  The F-ing pages fall out after a weeks use. What's so hard about good binding?    >:(
This is my boomstick!

Just because one printer in the UK has bad binding, doesn't mean all of them do. We may be a small country, but I assure you, there are more than just one binding company in the UK.

If he has used GW material in this book, then it might be worth buying a copy before the legal eagles sue him and force all copies to be pulped...

And on his website.

I can't imagine what they'd be like about something being sold with their IP on it, come on, they busted the Damnatus guys for making a FREE film.  ::)
