Hirst Temple
« on: May 02, 2010, 05:58:13 AM »

Here are a few pictures of a building I put together with Hirst bricks. We are going to use it as some sort of primitive temple in our pulp games --

It is fairly plain on its own but I think it looks nice with some decorations around it. The idol isn’t attached, so it can be swapped with other stuff --

There is an entrance leading under the temple at the rear, if you are brave or foolish enough to wander in and discover what horrors lie beneath --

For those of you familiar with my documented phobia of removable roofs, it is important to note that this building has a removable “floor”. Nonetheless, the doctor believes it is a positive step forward --

And I suppose the bottom base and top temple section could both be used as stand-alone features as well --

THANKS!

That looks great, usable in practically any setting and well constructed. I did a similar Hirt Arts temple platform last year; it's seen a lot of service so far and has withstood gaming and transport very well.

I really like the removable floor and access underneath - wish I had thought of that for my platform!

Two photos of my version, one WIP and the second in-game:

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

That temple looks great!  Where is the idol from?  It reminds me of the old AD&D players handbook cover.

The temple WIP is looking impressive; I like the ancilary details as well - the skulls on stakes really set if off.

Wirelizard - cracking job as always

Thanks both for posting.

@ Wirelizard -- Oh yes, your terrain was part of what inspired me to finally make this piece. You really make some cool stuff. Honestly, the removable floor and backdoor were completely unplanned, and simply came about as I was gluing it together.

@ Ironblood – It certainly reminded me of the old AD&D book as well. Look for Otherworld Miniatures, Demon Idol.

THANKS!

As always, your scenery work is amazing!

Where do you get such inspiration?

Thanks for sharing.

Best wishes.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Glad I inspired someone. My ego feeds on that sort of thing...  lol

Meant to ask, where are the various skull bits from?

As usual, excellent work David. A real inspiration.

Until I saw your statue on the temple top (is that from Otherworld?), I was looking forward to this coming out from Reaper: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/previews/latest/03514. Now I'm not so sure.  :?

I was wondering where all those skulls came from too.

The Skulls -- The skulls come from a couple different sources:
1. Armorcast, Lance & Laser: Tripod of Skulls (1) @ $3.49
2. Armorcast, Lance & Laser: Skulls on Spikes (10) @ 5.99
3. Armorcast, Bone Terrain: Small Skull Piles (3) @ $10.00
4. Enigma Fantasy Miniatures: Skulls (8) @$3.00 - these are the loose individual skulls scattered on the temple steps and floor.

@ Todd -- Wow! That Reaper idol rocks! I'll have to get that one as well. Yup, the one in my pic is from Otherworld.

@ Magokiron -- For terrain, I look for inspiration when watching movies and even old serials. Sometimes I'll watch an old movie for no other reason than to look for things I might be able to build.  :D

Thanks all!
Dave

Yes, that is the mold used to make all the bricks for this temple.
