"Capitan" Napoleonic Rules
« on: May 04, 2010, 05:40:44 PM »
Has anyone played these rules yet? I'd love to hear players' experiences of them.

I have a free copy from an issue of Wargames Soldiers & Strategy magazine. They look very good on an initial read-through, but I haven't had a chance to play them yet.

They are set at the "company" level, where each 8-10 man unit represents a section and three sections a company. Officer, musician etc figures represent 1 man, whilst ordinary troops represent three. Perfect for Sharpe etc. I have a feeling it could easily be adapted for the various wars in Mexico in the early 19thC. Lots of troops, but still plenty of room for heroes and villains :D

With all those lovely new plastic 28mm figures now available, it seems just right for playing something a little different from my usual corps-army level 15mm Napoleonic games. I could never afford large brigades or divisions in 28, so this scale seems ideal for 28mm gaming at a larger scale than the usual "true" 1:1 skirmish.

The rules and play aids can be downloaded free here, in both the original Spanish and also English:

The rules, aids etc can also be bought as a "hard copy" for those who are not into printing your own stuff.

They also do WWII (airborne/commando etc special ops) which look very intriguing, WWI aerial, Nap naval and Carlist War variants  ;D

Nobody's played them, then?  :(

I assume "Sharpe Practice" and similar rules are so good that people are happy with them. I might have a look at downloading SP.

Never mind, I'm going to give "Capitan" a go once I get enough figures together  ;)

I've downloaded them, but haven't read them yet. I confess it is mainly because I am happy with Sharp Practice and this is more or less aimed at the same type of actions.

Same here. I do plan to adapt the scenarios on the Capitan site to SP. WS & S seem to be fond of them, publishing the rules and several scenarios.
Waiter, my soup is giggling.
