Native American Warband

[Silent Invader]

Post LPL I thought I'd report on progress of my warband.

It's meant to be F&IW Huron-like, which for my gaming purposes (ie, so I can tell them apart from other natives on the table) means shaved tops of heads, side-lacing leggings, dull red warpaint and black hair.  Figures with 'leader' status also have a bright red head-dress.

The miniatures are a mix of Conquest, Perry and a few sculpts of my own.  A lot of the Conquest were converted from tribe-specific packs (eg, by adding side-flaps to leggings or removing 'mohican' styles) to stay with the Huron-like look.

I painted 26 for various rounds of the LPL, which added to those already painted gives me the 37 shown in the images (12 with bows, the rest with muskets).  I have another 30 with muskets that have yet to be painted.

did I miss it or do You already have some village scenery for them?

I also do not recall any "civilians" for these ranges

I'm not sure if you're interested, you may even be aware of it, but Herb Gundt wrote an article on building an Indian village, which was published in Wargames Illustrated 145 (October 1999).

following the introduction of Silent Invader, to recognize natives on the table and during the battle I use this system:

during the years I have bought many figures from various manufacturers, and more are adding at time, last from Gallopping Major.
most of them are generic Woodland natives,apart some partcular figures ,as the Perry Mission Converted natives that were used for what they are
my simple system is to use a paint schemes,
eg: Algonquins tribe white and red from Conquest
     Abenaki tribe mostly white or no color from Conquest
     Iroquois tribe black and red and mostly from Redoubt
     Hurons tribe red color from Conquest , now be changed with the new Gallopping Major figures, and the old Hurons recycled as Missisaugas or Wyandots.

hope to give help to someone who wants to add more natives to their warbands.

On the colour coding system, it does mean that once I've finished the Huron-like I could (sh! don't tell Mrs Invader) buy the whole lot over again but paint with different colours (Algonquin will be blue warpaint and brown hair) without obvious double ups!

but I have around 15 different tribes, ranging from 8-10 figures each tribe to 20 or more.

I love the look of the warband, makes me want to get into the genre.  Ahh more lead to buy how will I explain this to the wife? Well actually what she doesn't know wont hurt me right?
