Right, this thread is to collect any suggestions that people may have for bonus round themes for future seasons of the Lead Painters League.

You are welcome to post suggestions for possible bonus round themes here.

Just so we're clear, this is just to collect ideas - not to decide anything right now.

To remind you of the sort of thing (and to avoid repeating themes we've already covered), here are all the bonus round themes from previous seasons:

World War II - enter a new team (WW2 Germans, Russians, Brits, Dutch Sailors, Ethiophians, whatever) and you'll get 20 points

Halloween - just paint a team with a Halloween theme, and receive 5 bonus points! So, what´s actually eligible? Pretty much anything, be it Witches, Ghosts and Spectres, Frankensteins Monster, Vampires, Horror Clowns, Serial Killers etc.

Cthulhu - paint a cthulhu-related team of the humans and receive 10 bonus points! Paint a monster team and receive 20 points! Paint a monster team lead by Cthulhu (model sculpted by Bob Murch) himself and receive 30 points!

Conquistadors - Paint some spanish invaders and get 10 points. Paint some Aztecs, Mayas, Incas or Amazon savages like Tupi or Botocudo and get 15 points. Paint both (invaders and natives and make a battle scene with at least five figures on every side) and get 20 Points.

Mad Science - Paint a Mad Doctor and his laboratory staff and get 10 points. Paint a Mad Doctor with some robots or other crazy mechanical things and get 15 points. Paint a Mad Doctor followed of some mutants or other nasty creatures awakened to life by his dark genius and get 20 points.

Back of Beyond - Paint a troupe of 10 (yes, 10!) BoB foot soldiers (Reds, Whites, Brits, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetans, Mongols, Turks etc.) and get 10 points Bonus. Paint a troupe of 5 mounted soldiers and get 15 points. Paint a troupe of 10 soldiers and an armoured car/tank or 5 cavalry riders and an armoured car/tank and get 20 points. Paint a troupe of 10 soldiers and an armoured train or 5 cavalry riders and an armoured train and get 25 points.

Germans - in honour of the homeland of the LAF, paint some Germans and get 10 extra bonus points. From Teutobergerwald to Frederick the Great. The Franco-Prussian War, German East Africa, and World Wars One and Two. Not forgetting of course, weird, zombie or undead Germans. In short, there are a whole lot of Germans to choose from!

Saddle up! - We don’t see too many horses around here, so bonus points in round 5 will be awarded to teams with five or more mounted figures. They don’t have to be regular cavalry – they can be tribesmen, cowboys, reivers or rough riders. Or any type of uniformed cavalry. If you really can't bring yourself to attempt horses, then other real and fantasy animal mounts will be permitted - so wargs, camels, and so on.
And because we all know painting cavalry is quite an undertaking, there are 15 bonus points riding on this round.

The Lost World - Paint a team of five or more Neanderthals, Homo Erectus, aboriginals, skraelings, tribals, pygmies, or other primitive inhabitants of a lost world and get 10 big hairy bonus points. Paint a team of newly discovered primitives or prehistoric survivals and a team of five or more Lost World explorers and adventurers and get 20 bonus points. Paint a team with at least five of each (primitives and adventurers) and add a large dinosaur, woolly mammoth, giant ape, or similar prehistoric leviathan, and get a monster 30 bonus points!

Conan the Barbarian! - Paint five or more Barbarians or other peoples of Conan's world (Serpent Men, Black Kingdoms, Aquilonia etc.) and get 10 extra bonus points. Or paint some Barbarians or other peoples of Conan's world on Horseback and get 15 bonus points. Other animal mounts (sable tiger, lizards, whatever) will be permitted.

Zombies - Paint five or more Zombies (Sci-fi, Near future, Victorian, Old West, etc.) and get 10 extra bonus points. Paint five and more Zombies and a team of five or more intrepid adventurers figthing against zombies and get 20 bonus points.

Victorian Sci-Fi - Paint a team of five or more victorian Sci-Fi adventurers (humans, martians etc.) and get 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more victorian Sci-Fi adventurers (humans, martians etc.) and a small vehicle (a car, a tank, a small boat, etc.) and get 15 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more victorian Sci-Fi adventurers (humans, martians etc.) and a small vehicle (a car, a tank, a small boat, etc.) and a large vehicle (aeronef, terranef, submarine, gun boat, etc.) and get 25 bonus points.

Civilians and bystanders - Paint a team of five or more non-combatant civilians or bystanders, and gain 10 bonus points.
The subject can be historical, pseudo-historical, fantasy, sci-fi or imaginary – whatever you like. But they must be unarmed civilians.

Africa - Anything African, from Ancient Egypt or Numidia, all the way through to the Afrika Korps, Mogadishu and everything in between - including subjects like Zulus, Boers, colonial forces and so on. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a plausible African connection, and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a plausible African connection and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying their opponents, and gain 20 bonus points.

Scenes (or teams) from famous movies! - By ‘a famous movie’, we mean a movie which a majority of LAFers would have seen, heard of, or come across. Paint a team of five or more miniatures representing a recognisable scene or group from a famous movie, and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures representing a recognisable scene or group from a famous movie, and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying their opponents, and gain 20 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures representing a recognisable scene or group from a famous movie, include a second team portraying their opponents, and include a vehicle, large animal, creature, or piece of scenery specific to that movie, and gain 30 bonus points.

Old Metal - You may enter any kind of team, be it Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Historical; the only condition is that figures must have been manufactured in 1991 or before that date. We know that a lot of you folks still have a bunch of those lying around in your lead mountain; failing that, you can find various old miniatures on Ebay, for example, and not too expensive, either. So, to qualify for the 10 Bonus Points, paint a team of 5 or more figures manufactured in or before 1991!

The Worlds of J.R.R.Tolkien - You may base your entry on any of his books, be it The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, the Silmarillion or others. You may use humans or dwarves, elfkin or orcs - but make sure it is a recognizable group or coherent scene from Tolkien's worlds. There should be enough miniature ranges available to provide you with "raw material". There is, however, one restriction: You may NOT use Warhammer Fantasy figures, as those don't really have a "Tolkien" feel and have become more and more "Warhammer-specific". Please note that this does not extend to the Games Workshop Lord of the Rings range - you are free to use those. The restriction only covers Warhammer Fantasy Battles miniatures produced in the last 15-20 years. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to Tolkien adventures, and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to Tolkien adventures, and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying their opponents, and gain 20 bonus points.

Maritime/Naval - Adventures on the Seven Seas, so basically, anything naval or maritime. This includes, but is not limited to, sailors and pirates, war fleets and merchant navies, creatures of the sea and divers, ships and fish – basically, anything with a decent connection to maritime adventures. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to maritime adventures, and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to maritime adventures, and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying their opponents, and gain 20 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to maritime adventures, include a second team portraying their opponents, and include a ship, large animal, or other creature and gain 30 bonus points. Please make sure we will be able to see the whole ship/creature/whatever on the photo of your team.

HQ Group - The team should represent some form of command element, distinct from the rank and file troops of a force or army.  Examples might be; Napoleons and Generals, Platoon CO with 2IC, Radio Op & runners, etc.  While some miniatures might well be from the massed ranks, it should be obvious that the group performs a command function. To qualify for the 10 Bonus Points, paint a team of 5 or more figures.

Historical Civil War - This round's bonus theme is to paint one, preferably both, sides of an historical civil war. Paint a team of five or more miniatures forming one side in a civil war and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying the opposing sides in a civil war, and gain 20 bonus points.

Science Fiction - Although limited to a single genre, the scope is (hopefully) broad enough to generate a wide range of entries.  Flash Gordon vs Emperor Ming, Stormtroopers vs Ewoks, Tripods vs Victorian soldiers, etc.  The final round has always provided an opportunity to tell a story in a single scene, and this should be a great opportunity to do something special. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to science fiction, and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to science fiction , and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying their opponents, and gain 20 bonus points. Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to science fiction , include a second team portraying their opponents, and include a spaceship, vehicle,  large alien beast, or other creature and gain 30 bonus points. Please make sure we will be able to see the whole ship/vehicle/creature/whatever on the photo of your team.

The Realms of Fantasy - Anything that is demonstrably "classic fantasy", including, but not limited to, the Hyborian Age, Dungeons and Dragons, Tolkien, Warhammer etc. This explicitly EXCLUDES "fantasy" themes set in the modern world, e.g. Harry Potter or Twilight. Paint a fantasy-themed team of at least 5 figures and receive an extra 10 points.

The Ancient World - This includes everything from the dawn of civilization, such as Sumerians or Egyptians, to the Fall of Rome in the West and the beginning of the "Dark Ages". Note that this does NOT include either pre-history or ancient mythology - for example, Myceneans would be acceptable, whereas Argonauts or a gang of naughty Neanderthals would NOT be. Paint an ancient-themed team of at least 5 figures and receive an extra 10 points.

The War to end all Wars - This year being the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the first World War, the final round follows this topic. You may choose any period and theatre during the war, any setting, any scale. Paint a WW1-themed team of at least 5 figures and receive an extra 10 points. Paint a WW1-themed team (5+ figures) AND a "big thing", such as a Big Bertha, a MkIV or a St. Chamond tank, and receive an extra 15 points.

Armour - A team comprising figures that are all demonstrably fully or partially wearing some prominent form of BODY ARMOUR (i.e. Not just a helmet). From ancient, medieval, renaissance and fantasy subjects in plate or mail, through to sci-fi and modern subjects in power armour or kevlar.
Paint a team of at least 5 figures all in full or partial body armour and get 10 extra theme bonus points.

Animals - A team comprising (or including) five animals, real or imaginary EXCEPT horses. So dogs, wolves, camels, elephants, apes, wargs, dragons, mumakil, fell beasts, dinosaurs - anything you like providing they are not humanoid (or humanoid style aliens) or horses. Paint a team of at least 5 animals and get 10 extra theme bonus points. Paint a team of at least 5 animals AND 5 accompanying riders / handlers / herders / crew and get 15 extra theme bonus points. (Please note this extra theme bonus for riders / handlers AND their animals, is an exception to the usual rule about a rider and mount counting as one figure)

Women - Paint a team of 5 or more female figures and gain 10 bonus points. Paint a team of 5 or more female figures AND an accompanying 'big thing' (e.g. a vehicle, large animal or creature, ship, siege engine or structure, aeroplane, armoured fighting vehicle, spacecraft) and gain 20 bonus points.

Ideas for themes need to be wide enough to generate interest and allow for some creativity in the entries (so not 'French Napoleonic Guard Cavalry of 1812 - 1815') but also clear enough to stop people trying to bend the rules!

So - no guarantee that your ideas will be used in future LPLs, but it will certainly give lots of food for thought.
Off you go  :)

While I do appreciate the beers, wines, and brandies of the world; something of the child in me adores Bacardi Breezers because they taste like fizzy pop.

'The Hobbit' hits the cinemas next year. Perhaps a bonus round centred around the book version.

Or, since many of us seem to be cineasts, how about a bonus round were with entries are based on any film, like 'Zulu Dawn", 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Casablanca', 'Deep Throat'...
