Inkerman 28mm Alvis Saracen Build Update 22/05
« on: May 21, 2010, 02:13:19 PM »
Well I have decided to chart my work on the new Saracen, so here is what arrived this morning!

What you get in the bag...

Resin parts...

Metal Parts...

And what it looks like...

I will update this as I do each stage of work on the model. First glance, its a lovely clean cast with no imperfections or bubbles and very little cleaning up to do.

That’s a nice armoured vehicle. Was the MG in the turret a .30cal ?

Be needing one of these!

Not sure.

This is the first one from the production mould to see if it works... Looks like it has! Dave tends to spend a couple of weeks casting up a batch before annoucing they are for sale so people dont have to wait to get them. Im painting this one for the August issue of WI but I suspect he will have them ready for sale by early-mid June.

Next time I speak to him I will ask or drop him a line.

Also got the Ghurkas today... My they are nicely done.

I'm pretty sure I could use one of these.

Thanks for the quick response Piers. I won't bother Dave just yet then, it's not like I'm going to paint it straight away. I can wait for Gurkhas to be released and get more stuff all at once :)

Yes that's correct.

Ok...

Stage 1 - The model ready for work to start!

I havent added any extra details as this model will be for the WI advert, but if I do one for myself I will probably add a few extra details like wing mirrors ect.

Stage 2 - Black Undercoat

Stage 3 - FOW US Armour Spray for 'chipping' basecoat

My helper checking the model is well covered in Olive Drab!

Stage 4 - Toothpaste 'chipping' applied with an old brush

Stage 5 - Sprayed with FOW British Armour for overall colour

Stage 6 - Toothpaste removed with a sponge, hot water and a bit of elbow grease!

Gives a nice subtle look of wear and tear.

Nice work Piers, especially using toothpaste for chipping effect.

Cheers,

Good grief that makes me nostalgic. I've got the Dinky one around here somewhere.

That was my first thought when I opened the box!
