Looking for minis for Seminole Wars
« on: May 12, 2010, 11:51:01 AM »
Hi guys,
Anyone know where I can find minis of US army during the Second Seminole War ?
I looked for a long moment before asking you, I only found Old Glory range, but the problem is there's no pictures of them.

I am interested in this period for a long time, and the table I saw at Salute convinced me to start a project on this subject.

I understand your feeling, but Eric has recently shown greens of new French and Indian Wars Indians in winter gear and partially finished regulars so he does apepar to be in motion again. I have seen the Old Glory ones and...I would wait for Conquest!

I have a small Seminole project on the go (see http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=17379.0)

The Conquest Seminoles are gorgeous, but the Old Glory US army minis are a bit disappointing frankly. There are a few ways around this. One is to opt to game the First Seminole War, in which case you go for the Foundry War of 1812 range. The second is that game the Second Seminole War, but largely forget about the regular army, and go for either the many militias or the navy. For militias, you can opt for Texians by Boot Hill and Artizan - they were a pretty ragtag bunch at times, with uniforms according the whims (and finances) of their officers. For the navy, the Redoubt American Civil War navy landing party could just about be pressed into service. Some interesting options there for games with boats (for Seminole canoes, either model your own or go for Outpost Wargames Aztec canoes - these are pretty close).

Alas, I missed Salute, but you can find pics of the Seminole game here:
http://ilovewargameing.21.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2755 (pics 111-116). This game uses the 40mm HLBS Seminole range, with a variety of conversions for US troops. You can find more options on 40mm in an article in Wargames Illustrated #242 - PM me with your email if you'd like a PDF of this.

Hope some of this helps.

Go with the second Seminole war and use Boot Hill figures as suggested :D

You should be able to kill two birds with one stone and use the Texians for your Alamo project as well.

I will be doing New Orleans Greys and US deserters later this year who will be fine for the Seminole shenanigans.

Beats me why anybody would want to game this war, when there was so much more fun to be had in Texas at the same time... ;) ::)

Probably showing my ignorance here, but I thought that the New Orleans Greys wore a sort of flat topped forage cap whilst by the time of the 2nd Seminole War the US army were wearing a leather folding job - but I could well be wrong :)

No, you right, but at Alamo were also US "desters" wearing US uniforms, thus good for seminole war.

My swamp will be a "3 period cross over swamp"

-The Patriot AWI
-Seminoles
-Pulp Cultists

I havenīt figured out how to do the dead tree trunks and swamp grass. Any advice out there?
