Anarchy in Africa
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:26:41 PM »
Anarchists with Mahdist support assault the HQ of the Amiable North-East African Trading Co, in order to capture a valuable scientist holed up inside.

The table. British in the foreground;

Anarchist setup;

British setup;

The Scots hold the compound;

The target and stoic Company defenders;

Rule, Britannia;

Anarchists march to the sound of the guns (except one. I wonder what he's seen?);

Vas is das?

The Mahdi's secret weapon;

The anarchist automaton advances...

...and is destroyed by a lucky Scottish bullet;

Dodgy fellows;

Anarchist heavy gun;

Hat's off;

Backup arrives for both sides;

Which card do I need to kill the tank again?

Oh, right, that one;

Not even can the steam helicopter save the day;

A close British defeat.They ran out of things with which to kill the armour.

Rules used were The Sword and the Flame, which have grown to become just about my favourite rule set.
I told you so. You damned fools.

Great looking game.

Niiiiiice!  :)

You've got a lot of armour on that board (not that I'm complaining), how do the rules cope with that as its got the potential to be carnage?

Don't!

Yes, there is a fair bit of armour there (about 6 or so tanks, plus other things). TSATF doesn't have any rules for vehicles, so I wrote up some (very) basic ones of my own, which run ok (the card system makes rule modifications very easy indeed). The problem I have is that my collection contains a very large bias towards small arms - machine guns and light guns - which means that when we do add armour it's very hard to kill, for a simple lack of hardware.

I felt the armour rules ran really well personaly, even with the lack of heavy guns to knock out stuff. They ran really nice and simple like.
I think we probably gave the Land Ironclads too many men in for their gun crews though.

Good stuff!

Yep, its a fine balance to get right. When we play GASLIGHT games we make sure there is nothing 'untouchable' on the board. For instance if Bullshott fields the dreaded spider tank we make sure there's at least one or two things on the board that have a fair chance of damaging it.
