What grass do you use - I like the shade and it seems very fluffy!

it is 2mm, that's the main point. I also dislike the "cheap" grass, made with a mixture of different colours to give a specific color.
I prefere this more expensive ones (around 6 euros, not too much, for a huge amount)!

Some old celtic style roundhouses with straw rooves would look great huddled together inside that fence!

Brilliant stuff!

You are doing a great job. It's hard to believe this is 15mm scale.

i've started with "real" terrain: i could'nt play without hills, so i made a test, using the same pattern and painting ot the bases of the other scenics:

here is with some minis on:

please, tell me everything about this, because i'm not totally convinced, and i have ready to texture much more hills, waiting for your suggestions!

I find your terrain really nice. The whole project, in fact.

However, there is one thing I'd like to add. While the ground really works well in black and white with the smaller terrain pieces like fences etc., I would use more organic colors on larger terrain pieces like hills. At least some patches of brownish maybe even greenish color would make it less sterile looking. Just plain black and white make it look like a huge parking lot.

That said, of course that's a question of personal taste. I personally do like the softer colors.

Please continue posting, I find this thread really inspiring.

i think that the photos makes everything more contrasted, but essentially the white overcoat gives a really parking style, your are right.

i was planning to make a wasted, icy and dry land setting, but what can i do?
I can't use different grounds for small or big scenic pieces, so i dunno qhat to do with this...
maybe adding more grass? maybe it should work, don't you think? just to avoid the large brown and white areas!

You could touch it up here and there with some brown drybrush - ever so lightly. Create some patches of different colors. Even a dark brown drybrush. In the end you will probably have a more lively base.

What your terrain reminded me of at first was the moors near where I used to live - these are some similar ones -

Why not do the soil as you are doing but put in more clumps of grass, some rocky outcrops and maybe some darker stuff for heather? Not sure what you'd use for the heather but antenociti's workshop would be a good place to have a look...  :D

You can buy purple flock from Hasslefree or Black Cat bases, try gluing clumps of grass down as usual and then when they dry, drybrush PVA glue over the clumps (only lightly) and scatter some of the purple flock over the top. This way you will end up with a light dusting of purple 'flowers' (especially for 15mm scale) which will (hopefully) look like heather!

Beautiful Moors there Thants, wish I lived in an area like that. Would you believe, my girlfriend has NEVER been to the north?!
Or are you Cornish (shudder)?  ;D

The hills look good, I would like to see more texture, like the heather, really rocky outcrops and something more than a flat top, I like seeing bumpy terrain. A lot of boards often look like France or Holland, flat as a board! WHy do that when it could look like the rolling landscapes of Northern Britain!  :D
