Those are actually plastic markers listing the name of the regiment on the backside, and the corps / division / battalion as well as the starting number, weapons and quality of the troops on the inside.

Saves RIVERS of confussion on that size to see which unit is which, has what and had how many men in it of whatever quality as recordkeeping with 9 corpses on the Union side and 7 on the Confederate side would be a nightmare sucking the pace out of the game

Fantasic.  A real inspiration.  I'll have come back and keep looking at this for motivation to keep painting my ACW.

Nice to see all the limbers and caissons.

what rules were you using?

I agree that the paper markers were distracting. Did you find players moving their troops and leaving the signage behind?

A simplified homebrewn set of Johnny Reb 3 (basically, reworked charge and cut down on number of morale tests in a turn)

So far, I think 95% of the units still have their correct name card with them, though the occasional piece of artillery or commander has wandered off with the wrong unit.  Must have to do in the blackpowder cloud of an ACW battlefield I think  lol

And now, off to the final day of the battle, and then send ol` Abe the good news the Union pulled it off (we hope, it`ll depend on Groveton)

Amazing stuff.
I am always impressed with large amount of figures on a table. I just don’t understand how people manage to stay interested in one subject for long enough to paint this many figures. The majority of which are very similar I presume?
How many people were involved in both playing the game and painting all the figures?
Also are you playing in a dedicated wargames room?

We don`t have a wargames room, we have our own private clubhouse  :-*

90% of the models are from the collection of a single person, Patrick Smets, who also painted them, the game was fought out with on average 15 players and 3 umpires.

We closed off today with the final turns, it was called a stalemate due to the mexican standoffs around the table but pure on victory conditions and losses the Union scored a minor victory, and earning me the nickname of `Concrete Wall Murrath` as my Corps against all odds managed to keep the centre  lol

Final pictures including closing shots without the nametag identifiers will be posted a bit later on, still unpacking and stuffsies atm

Since I also took some pics, I will post them here too.
These are made during day 2.

The rebel scum dug themselves in at the railroad, and were too scared to show their ugly faces.

This gave us (the Union) the opportunity to carefully move our troops into position, while we had some fortune in rolling for reinforcements.

At noon, it finally hit them that there was a blue tsunami of Northern soldiers rolling their way.
About 80 to 90% of the Northern was deployed and the rebels started moving forward. (I must say, a brave decision at that moment)

At the end of day two, the troops came in range and the time was come to call the cleaning lady to mop up the blood.

Some numbers:

All mini's are 28mm
Table size: 12"x16" (3,6mx4,8m) aprox.
Participants: 15 and 3 umpires/Gamemasters (you just need someone to complain too  ;-) )
Total mini's used (including horses, limbers etc) :About 4600...

I discovered a nice feature on my camera...sepia pictures.

And so I started experimenting:

Here you can see the table when we play:

A little effort from a few players:

And voila, two tables:

That's how we do things at TSA...

You need another table so you can attack them in the flank!   8)
