Pulp British?
« on: June 21, 2007, 12:04:30 PM »
Hi, my first post after lurking for a while :)

My question is, does anyone have any suggestions for some pulp WWII british troop types? I am looking at building a Brit force, and am thinking of having commandoes as my base unit, a squad of 'lost' paras, (Sharpes Para's), various characters, and a squad or two of Chilterns sci-fi tommies.

Can anyone help me out with some other units?
And in the fury of this darkest hour
We will be the light
You've asked me for my sacrifice
And I am Winter born

The Project X files had some paranormal agents and priests...

Bolt Action has a vampyre killer/exorcist major in its catalog

Then you can think in the guys of the Rifle Brigade, of course...

Good heavens, all sorts of options!

SBS commandos with their little wooly hats and funny canoes, boffins and codebreakers, Sikh and Ghurka NCOs, and Anglican ministers serving in the Department of Supernatural Threats! You can even throw in a misplaced Canadian or Australian as the comic relief.

And welcome!

Foundry has some nice Royal Marines I think. Could be a bit like  the old Dr Who U.N.I.T(but 30-40 years ahead of its time)
Welcome to the forums Winterborn.I spent some time in Darwin a few years ago. Stayed at a dodgy hostel run by some right characters. Place was called 'Knuckey Lodge'.
Have you got many players in that area? :?:

What im realy looking for is pulp squad ideas, not squads just lifted from the actual WWII. The reason being, is that I am looking at three pulp squads plus assorted monstrosities for my germans, (plus regular SS troopers), and would like some brits to match them. One i have come up with, is possibly to use the Planet of the Apes gorillas from graven images as creations of Dr Moreau, and placed in the service of the crown. Another, is to convert some good elves into Sidhe that have come out from their mounds to fight the nazi menace. Yet another is to match the nazi werewolves with british or colonial werewolves loyal to the crown.

As for gamers in darwin, there are none (that im aware of) into pulp WWII. Plenty of 40K and WFB, and Flames of War. Very few of anything else. That is why I plan on getting two armies, and trying to get some of my mates into Weird War II.

Also, I work just round the corner from Knuckey Lodge  :)

one thing britain does seem to have is a nice selection of "if britain is threatened, x will..."

King Arthur and his knights will rise from their slumber and beat off the threat

Bang Drake's Drum, and old Sir Francis will drive off the invaders again

arthur works better than drake, i guess...

Yeah , Project X by Northstar have a couple of British soldiers in Power Armour. One carries a PIAT I think.I've got a couple of the German equivalents and they are fine for 28mm. They could be your heavy support against Nazi Doomtroopers.

I can't believe Knuckey Lodge is still going.Thought it would've been knocked down by now. Mind you, it was back in 2001.
 :o
Don't know if that's any help. The 'Rifle Brigade' are quite good for a comic element.
As usual, the Germans get all the cool stuff.

I think that the British would consider it Quite Wrong to have anything to do with the sort of distasteful occulty things that - well, let's be honest about it -the Nazis are interested in.

We didn't save our lads at Dunkirk to have vampires running amok in Little Piddlecombe, after all.

I say, boffins with mad inventions (often failing in wet weather due to dodgy electrics), Dad's army, commandoes and paras. Robots wedged inside Austin Sevens.

We look to Operation Dumbledore to fend off Nazi occultism.  :x

The Project X Dreadnought suit comes with a PIAT, Mortar and BESA MG.

For my pulp games I am doing the british as a force of infantry to is supplemented by mystics and paranormal teams that are armed with mystic weapons.

It lets me use the Artizan range for the troops and all sorts of assorted pulp minis for the paranormal teams and the mystics.

Or you could go for witches (as in Bednobs and Broomsticks ?)

But the Harry Potter books do mention war service (but no details) so maybe wizards, goblins etc might be ok ? Probably not in recent military kit though, more of an eccentric English gent look. (Perhaps using Victorian figures ?) Backed up by more mundane commandos, SOE agents etc.

I haven't read the book yet but I think it appeared in USA last year. The League reunites again to solve new dangers in 1950... but it means they were there during the War!

It is called, the Black Dossier. Only info I have is in the wikipedia:

They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....
