Little to add, but I also loved your conversions. I also wanted a Cap for my WWW games and now I know how to have one. Excellent work, as usual!

Tidy.

Is that version of Captain America one that has ever appeared in print, or is he your own design? I'm not too familiar with his history (even though I had a weekly Marvel UK Captain America comic on order from the newsagents as a kid, I'm only familiar with his 70s and 80s exploits).

I was under the impression he wore his cowl even back in WWII.

The design is based on the WW2 style of the Ultimates comics.
The 1st issue of the Ultimates is all WW2 action. An absolute fantastic comic of a WW2 US raid on a secret Nazi Atom Bomb research base. Very recomended.
I will post a scan of Captain look in the comic soon.
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de

Ultimate Cap in WWII is my absolute favorite version of the character. You can see a not-so-great image of him here.

Agis, I was mainly referring to the racial stereotypes.  Japanese with big cheeks, glasses, squinty eyes, and enormous buck teeth.

Browse through these and you'll get the idea...

Based on some of the questionable anatomy on Cap on some of these covers, it looks like they were rationing civilian use of artistic talent, just like gasoline and rubber.

Nice work, Agis. They're really great!

Thanks! That was the baisc design I was aiming for.

And I have to agree Ultimate Captain is really great. The whole Soldier out of time theme is SOOO good presented. I just loved it when he beat the crap out of Pym, because he hit his wife. Thats's my hero!
(OK, he was also interested in the Wasp...)

White - are you referring to the white parts on the uniform?

No, I was referring to the white on the shield side, see here
I noticed you painted the blue on the rim, but didn't do so with the white which can be slightly seen on the outermost left side

Don't know what Agis had planned, but to me it looks like Cap painted his own shield and didn't worry too much about whether it was perfect. Just wanted to make sure he got the red, white, and blue on the front.

Ahh, I see. Deliberate difference between the blue and red/white part.
In the blue part I could go around the edges without too much hassle.
Plus - I wanted the blue to be visible from the top of the mini (the view on the table).

For the red/white part I decided to just go for the olive drab, because:
- it is not so noticeable (I was not aware that you look sooo careful...)
- it would be a lot of effort to paint the stripes around the edge symmetrically!

So - bottom line you discovered that I sometimes a bit lazy!

Oh dear... that's simply amazing! I love such strange stuff! Brilliant idea, good conversion and paintwork.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

Thanks. So what's the Ultimates, then?

Not another retcon/reboot type affair or alternative universe nonsense, like DC seem to have every five minutes?

When did the comics industy go insane? If I was in charge I wouldn't bother with all this endless spring cleaning. Who cares if their huge bloated comic universes are inconsistent? I don't. You can only read one comic at a time, after all.

Sorry, not meaning to hijack. Great work there. And that alternative Captain in the links does look rather cool, I must own.

the ultimate... series (ultimate xmen, spiderman, fantastic four and the ultimates) is a new, modern take on the classic characters. it's not a retcon, nor a reboot, but a completely standalone version of the characters that runs alongside the continuing traditional ones.

the idea was to make it more appealing to modern audiences, and provide a more accessible jumping in point for new readers and for those existing fans who were sick of the massively unwieldy backstory in most books.

the ultimates (ultimate version of the avengers) is good. very good.  the spiderman one is so-so, and the xmen one went downhill fast.  never read the fantastic four one, but i never read the traditional ones either...

hope that helps

phil

Marvel has basically rewritten every of the bigseller lines as an Ultimate series. The Ultimates are the modern day version of the Avengers.

see some of the reviews here:
http://www.amazon.de/Ultimates-1-Hc/dp/0785110828/ref=sr_1_2/303-5374694-7750620?ie=UTF8&s=books-intl-de&qid=1182806560&sr=1-2

Absolutely recommended. One of the best Superheroe comics IMO.
