RTV 101 or similar silicone rubber for mould making
« on: June 10, 2010, 05:10:09 PM »
The dregs in my tin of RTV 101 have started to cure and so I need to get hold of some more silicone rubber.

The plan is to cast some muskets, tricornes and sets of arms so I don't need much and I have already cured rubber to hand that can be used to pad out the mould.

My last lot was from Tiranti ( here) which comes in at £21.21 + £5.50 delivery = £26.71.

I know the Tiranti product is good but I'm looking for a smaller quantity as I don't need too much and I want to pay as little as possible.

Can anyone tell about their experience in using the rubber from Hobby's (here) which for 250g comes in at £11.35 + £3.00 delivery = £14.35.

Finally, is there anywhere else (in the UK) that I should be looking?

Thanks.

with regard Hobbys - yes I have used it many times and never had any problems both ordering direct and buying it from the local model/craft shop which stocks their products.

I have used Hobbys for years. When I asked I was looking for alternatives. The one James suggested in Langley Mill was very helpful when I contacted them but I never ordered anything.

Did I, don't remember that one  lol

I use Notcutt's in Riply, but that's only because they are 15 minutes down the A3.

Really. Four years late. How about introducing yourself first. It would be polite.
