German Armor Crosses
« on: June 14, 2010, 02:38:14 PM »
Was the design of the cross a solid white color up till 39?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

The vast majority of pictures I have seen of the German invasion of Poland show white crosses on the armor, so I would say yes

The Balkenkreuz was in use from 1916 to 1945. It was either white or black in the beginning, but the Wehrmacht experienced the enemy aiming at them during the raid over Poland (the Allied experienced the same with the huge white stars later) and switched to black ones with white outlines or even only white outlines.

During the Polish campaign yellow crosses were also used. Makes a nice variant ;)

The white cross was exclusively used in Poland as far as I know. I have never seen it used before or afterwards.
