Don't worry, history says: 'It won't last that way for long ...'  ;)

my history says: it has never been like this! ;)

That's no workbench, that's the storage room of a shop  ;)

If only I managed to get that organized. Alas, not enough space in our apartment  :'(

Don't give up, it's taken me 50+ years and many, many, failed plans to get this far ...

Cheers!

Joe, I am jealous of your space and organisational things.

So is my wife  :D

Dave

I'm jealous of your wife! Mine has a tendency to roll her eyes and mutter things like 'Bloody silly man and his bloody silly soldiers!' ... ::)

I wish I could find some decent-but accessible way to store all the long, thin clutter (balsa, basswood, dowel, textured wood lengths, textured foam sheets) without just boxing it up in something. Right now it's all lying at the back of my work table so I can see at a glance how much I have.

I'm in a pickle because my workbench is also my game table. It's a mess (though I could probably clean it up in about a half-hour or an hour), which dissuades me passing along gaming invites.

When you do find a way to store the long stuff let me know, you can't see it in the pics but there are sheets of balsa, card and styrene tucked away in virtually every corner.

I'm in a pickle because my workbench is also my game table. It's a mess (though I could probably clean it up in about a half-hour or an hour), which dissuades me passing along gaming invites.

That's where the plastic storage boxes come in, it's a lot easier if there is  somewhere for everything to go, and because they stack they are more space efficient than shelves or cupboards.

Cheers!

For storing long stuff, I had purchased some mini blinds and they came in clear rectangular tubes that protect the light weight balsa and such and allow me to see whats in which tube at the same time.

Oh man, I know exactly the kind of thing you're talking about.

Sadly, I don't think I can justify buying blinds for the packaging alone.  ;D

Might be able to get the packaging some other way though...

Anyway, all this talk made me go out and get a little storage tray for my unpainted minis. Even though I run to very small numbers of figures, I too have succumbed to the "Buying more than you're painting disease". Got all the loose packets off my table and freed up about a quarter of the space. That's that much closer to actually being able to quickly and practically switch from work table to game table.

Sounds too much like my missus, I misguidedly tried to justify some purchases by declaring that I got them much cheaper than they were worth, she now keeps asking when am I going to sell them. My response is to hunker down into a squatting position, stroking said miniatures and proclaiming 'come on preciouses, daddy loves you all, he wont leave you, no he won't ...'

Pringles tubes are what you need  :)

I've got loads, normal height for the tall stuff and cut down for the offcuts etc and for the sheet materials a small set of file drawers will do the trick (even a cheap plastic version would do the job).

After many months of general inaction, I have finally cleared, sorted, boxed and labelled my man-cave to the point where I feel willing to take pictures ...

I am so not showing this to the girlfriend....  She'll expect me to organize my room and will find out how much I really have...

For the rest...  love it!  :-*

Finally after all of these wishing, I have a permanent set up!

Travelled to Ikea and picked up a couple of bits and pieces.

I'm further looking to bulk it out with a set of ikea wooden drawers. Also that beech/birch strip is actually a drawer.

The lights are ok, but if anyone can tell me of an (inexpensive UK-based) source of daylight bulbs I'd be very happy. I'm also looking for a nice stacking paint rack; does anyone have an idea where I can get one?

Cheers
Andy

Cool! Actually, i'd go for some white lights for painting. I painted with yellow lights (3000 K) for a while, but then i realized that many tones were differents when at the sunlight.!

I'd love to get a couple of nice bright daylight-ish bulbs for after hours painting as well. Long hours means that I'm often home well after sundown on work days.
