Call of Cthulhu Graphic Novel
« on: June 18, 2010, 02:21:02 PM »
Finally found this little gem again. It's a graphic adaptation of the Call of Cthulhu story and it's REALLY good. R'lyeh never has looked as good as in this novel 8).
A real nice one if you don't know it!
The website may not be the greatest with lots of ads, but at least you can read it here online.

Great link! There's some inspirational artwork in there and it complements the story perfectly.

My only gripe is my poor old eyes can't cope with reading too much screen text. I have had to read it in small doses, which is incredibly frustrating for such a good story  >:(

Oh well  ;)

There are actually a lot of Cthulhu comics out there.  I haven't found any that float my boat - they're often gory (not my bag) or deal more with the cosmic stuff than I care for.  Me, I like the geneologists discovering something terrible in a weird place, and there isn't a lot of that.

But Boom Studios (http://www.boom-studios.net/) has quite a few.  I expect they'd be good inspiration for folks looking for ideas.
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

Lovecraft is missing is quite nice.  Here are a few more graphic novels

An interesting take on Lovecraft's life if the Mythos were real, and he had a part in it.  The Mythos aside it is a pretty good graphic novel take on the life of H.P. Lovecraft.  It's been a while since I've read it, but the book seemed very consistent with the bio stuff writteb by S.T. Joshi.

An excellent elseworlds series that merges the Batman and Cthulhu Mythos.  I don't know if it's widely available now, but I highly recommend it.  This was one of Mignola's better (non-Hellboy) projects.

That batman comic looks fantastic.

I live in the same area that the Lovecraft Is Missing author lives.

Let's not forget 'Necronaughts' (sp?) Pretty good read...the big reveal at the end seems to turn off Lovecraft purists (meself included...)...but the art is stunning. Plus, Harry Houdini.

Richard Corben has done a bunch of Poe stuff and a fantastic graphic novel adaptation of 'The House On The Borderland' One of my personal favorites...although the book suffers from poor editing (Pretty sure Hodgson was his own editor...) and can be a bit of a slog, still quite a creepy read. Many similar themes to Lovecraft's work IMHO...

And for a good all around Cthulhu reader try out 'Graphic Classics'. They have lots of great adaptations of Poe, Doyle, Wells, London...the list goes on! The 'H.P.Lovecraft' edition feature a number of 'classic' selections and some great art!

As a matter of fact, I believe that The House On The Borderland was one of Lovecraft's favorites! ;D

That batman comic looks fantastic.

It totally is, highly recommended. Mignola has the perfect vision for a Lovecraftian look to things.

Really liked the Batman story overall...great visuals and some cool twists on the mythos...really didn't dig on the comic characters everywhere...The Demon? Lame. :? Also, thought the end was weak.

Wow, excellent thanks for sharing that, I loved reading through it. Done by the same artist who did the RPG rulebook I believe.

Nice find.
