Oh dear its gone all foggy

So I've had a good week 

Painted 4 Cavalry 

Used army painter dark and strong tone to good effect 

Varnished them with Army painter anti shine and... it went a bit foggy 

so was wondering is there anything I can do to rectify or is it all alost cause 

if you can help me I would be very grateful

I did spray it earlier this evening outside didn't feel cold or damp so a bit at aloss

if the figures are painted with acrylics You should be able to wash off the varnish with enamel thinner

The champion has been AP Anti shined but I did not use the dip on him and he did not fog

Don't know if you will be able to see the difference



Just previewed them and you can sort of see what I mean, not terrible but annoying

You can try to revarnish them using enamel gloss varnish. Humbrol is good. Thin it with white spirit a bit and rub it on carefully with a brush. Just a thin coat.

The more I think about it the more I feel it was me and not the product either poor choice of location and atmospherics or me just liberally spraying too much.

That method probably can't be used on plastic though unfortunately.

Can't help with fixing the problem, however might be able to help avoid it in future. The dip by army painter holds a great deal of moisture and needs a minimum of 24 hours to dry. It feels dry long before this but it's not finished setting, if you spray before 24hrs have passed then the figures fog up like yours. Also, environmental conditions will affect the amount of time it takes to dry, I always leave it a couple of days before doing any varnish after seeing this happen to someone elses figures.

I think that you are right, one of those figures was left for two weeks after varnishing and still fogged but not quite as bad, the others were roughly 24 hrs so I think it was a mix of not leaving them to dry for long enough and the timing of th evarnishing outside at 8.30, it was a bit muggy which wouldn't help

As another thought, was it the beginning or end of the spray can? I had a similar problem once with some floor varnishing I did. The 'matting' medium had seperated slightly in the tub and I ended up with one corner of the floor that went a foggy white colour. I had to sand it back down and do it again to fix it.

Now… that happen to me once but only on two or three figures… I fear I can’t be of much help since I decided to re-paint over the worst parts and leave the rest as is.

it was the second use of the can, I am beginning to think it was me not shaking for long enough, and being over generous.

I think that you are right so tonight I will shake the can for britain or at least three minutes anyway.

enamel thinner, either dipped or sprayed with a pump aerosol

try on an unimportant spot first if You don't trust the method

neither plastic nor acrylic paint will be attacked by it
