New tanks on the market
« on: June 28, 2010, 02:09:38 PM »
I'm a big fan of "future" tanks and I just came across 2 new ones, different from the usual "GW look-alike" stuff

BaggageTrain is offering the Blitzer Heavy Tank

BattleBuild is offering the HT52 Hammer of Iron. Unfortunately, it can only be bought using Ebay. They haven't updated their site yet  ???

HT52 on Ebay

I can't save the pictures right now, but the tank looks great. They are also selling a APC and both of them look like Neo-Soviet vehicles, hehe.

I like it as it's futuristic, but not too far out there.

Althought that main gun looks alot like a straw from a kids cup.

Second one is nice, is it cheaper than a Lemun Russ though?

@TheMightyFlip - it's £5 cheaper than the new LR. And the one from BaggageTrain is like almost £15 cheaper. Of course both of them are in resin, so they can't be heavily converted like the plastic LR  :?

My main "problem" with the BaggageTrain tank is the fact that it isn't as detailed as the other offers in the market. Guess that's why it's cheaper. And like supervike said, that gun barrel...arggg  :o

hi
How new is the Blitzer? It looks very similar to a tank i bought about six years ago, but  can't remember who from.. The main difference seems to be the barrel.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. From what I know, most of the Baggage Train AFV kits were originally sold by Marbeth Designs in the late 1990s.

These two tanks (apart from the track units) look like something thrown together with plasticard.  I know that probably sounds fairly blunt but the Merkava-like tank doesn't have any details and is just a collection of geometric shapes.  You could buy an old tank kit and some plasticard and knock something like that up fairly quickly and for a fraction of the cost.

As it stands, the Merkava-like one is good enough to use as a base for a tank but it doesn't cut it when you see the cleanly cast work of companies like Old Crow or Fenris...not to mention Pig-Iron or Antenociti's Workshop...and for a few extra pounds there are all the GW kits.

If I could use a single word for these it would be 'basic'.

That said, I have only voiced my opinion and there will be people out there who are happy to pay for these kits at the advertised price.

No sir, I don't like it. I can get a 1/48 scale Merkava from Academy Minicraft for 10.00 USD and modify it to fit my needs.

The hammer of iron is interesting, but looks like a rip off of the Old Crow Gladius medium tank.

I think there is a design similar to the Blitzer in the ALIENS Colonial Marines Technical manual (probably also inspired by the Merkava).  That's what it reminded me of, at least.

Although they don't seem to have them on the web, if you ever catch Baggage Train at shows they have quite a few other vehicles up for grabs, including a great post Apoc type 4-wheel truck. Bought two at Salute and I'll take a couple of snaps. Worth looking out for.

Looks like a Super Merkava.

I was thinking that myself, actually.
