They do paint up nicely, just the casting quality of some figures really puts me off.

Cool. I like your khaki. What did you use?

I know what you mean about the quality, just a few of my French and Germans have spots where everything just kind of turns to mush on them.

Was about to ask what you meant by poor casting quality, but Plynkes seems to have pointed it out. Any photos so that I can see?

Beautiful work, in either case. Well done indeed:)

Doc, mostly they are okay, but I have had the odd one who didn't have a proper nose, and there is a tendency for there to be a kind of jagged mess underneath places where there is an overhang (like beneath equipment pouches or backpacks), and this has to be carefully cut away. I'm not talking about the kind of regular flash that can be scraped away with the flick of a knife, but solid metal that isn't so easy to remove.

Must stress that the majority of Renegade figures I have painted were fine though.

If you still want I can try and see if I still have an unpainted fellow exhibiting these symptoms and take a photo tomorrow if you like.

Ok, I get you now. I have experienced similar problems with some of my Great War figs - particularly beneath the brims of helmets, and beneath packs.  Almost looks like some sort of metal tumor. Have been able to get rid of a lot of this, with some work, but other pieces are very difficult.

No need for a photo. Totally understand what you're talking about now. Good to know it's not a problem on the majority of figs, in your experience, though.

Doc:  Plynkes nailed the problems with the casting and is sounds like the Great War figures have the exact same problem areas.

Plynkes:  The khaki is Vallejo Khaki or Khaki Grey mixed with bone for highlights and some of them are done with the Reaper Miniatures Khaki Triad.
