Eureka War Turtle
« on: July 08, 2010, 10:42:47 AM »
Eureka have released a war turtle/land ship to go with their frog/turtle army. I may or may not be partly to blame for this one as I mentioned some time back I had converted a GW Mumak to a land ship by ripping the howdah off and replacing with a balsa howdah looking abit like a small galleon, crewed by conquistadors with swivel guns and a Mayan lady mahout.

Anyway, to the piece at hand. It consists of a resin/metal turtle with metal howdah, a terrapin mahout and captain, and 4 terrapin with pike and 2 terrapin with cannon rammers.

Overall length 107mm, width 58mm height to top of howdah wall 70mm.

The turtle itself is cleanly cast and detailed, and I really love it. Fit is very good.
The howdah is a bit of a problem on my cast and the lower walls don't appear to sit as perfectly as they should on the floor part. The walls for the upper level are similar but a passable fit but I don't think ideal. I will mention this to them and it may or may not be adjusted in the future. The upper level has 2 lugs with holes for fitting 2 swivel guns and a small simple hanging banner in a hole in the floor.

The crew are very small as per the rest of the terrapin army. I'm not a fan of the terrapins in general, but they are more of the same of the rest of the army releases. I will admit they didn't photograph very well and I didn't try hard either.

I saw this painted up by Kosta (who sculpted it) and it is truly a FANTASTIC model.
I'm terribly biased of course, but I still absolutely love it.

Cheers,
Ben.

I love it.  :-* Exactly the kind of stupidity that appeals to me.

If only I played WHFB, I'd build a proxy Lizardman army out of these.

Exactly what I thought when I saw it on TMP! Only thing is that all the black powder weaponry looks a bit awkward, but all those little critters (including turtles, tortoises, and the frogs) are just perfectly gorgeous little figures.

True, but then I'd make it a themed Lizardman Pirate army...  :D

Add some Ninjas and you are set for a winner. lol You could, of course, always have a lizardman enclave in contact with those scheming Cathayans, while rating the guns as bows and blowpipes in game terms (as for damp powder).

Great - a giant snapping turtle (with legs!) would be a nice addition too - complete with nervous looking handlers holding very long sharp sticks...  >:D
