I've been contemplating pickin' up that figure for a while.  How much of the alien is connected to her foot/feet are they easily separated with minimal putty work to fix?

That is correct.

The two figures are separate pieces - there is no separating necessary.

So, I take it you've added different legs to make them stand up? If so, I'd never have been able to tell they were converted  ;)
