Belgium Artillery
« on: July 22, 2010, 07:39:58 PM »
Hi, I'm in the process of collecting a small 28mm Belgian Force, Is there any artillery/field guns and crew out there that would be suitable?

The only people I know of who produce 28mm Belgians are Great War Miniatures and Brigade Models neither of whom do artillery as yet.

Of the the two I would think that Brigade would be the best bet to release some.

Battle honours who are part of Old Glory 15s in the U.S. do Belgians including a gun and crew. I've not seen the Belgians but I've some figures for Africa  and while not as nice as Brigade or Great War they are still  quite acceptable. Only thing is they are more 25mm than 28mm so look small alongside some ranges but that might not be an issue for a gun/crew.

I've never tried it but I've seen posts suggesting the UK stockist for OG 15s whose name escapes me will get them on special order.

If you mean Belgians for 1914, purchase any suitable model of a German Model 96 77mm gun ( any number of companies make these) and replace the shield with a curved bit of plasticard or better still buy the Woodbine Design Turkish version, they've done that bit for you, it was essentially the same gun. Landships should have plenty of photos as guidance. Crews would have to be converted. Not sure off hand what Belgian artillery crews looked like in 1914 but I suspect a head swap would probably be about as much conversion as would be needed.

Post 1915/16 just use French guns and crews.

headdress can be a  bit of a problem. It is either a small busby or the "bonnet de police". My Belgian artillery uses the Empress miniatures Isabellina cap which is a 100 % match for the Bonnet de police

post 1915/1916 uses the same guns but adds some French material
