Weird War Walker.......First build Up and Size Comparison
« on: July 20, 2007, 07:37:32 PM »
I've just picked up a 1/35 'Gunther' walker from Paolo Parente's "Dust" range on Ebay.
I know it's 1:35, but it was cheap! I'm sure I can convert the turret to be more in line with 28mm minis ( I've got loads of WW2 bits I can use)
Any how, once built it will be 10" tall, which is a little big to game with but ideal as an objective.

Has anyone else used this kit for Weird War gaming?

I haven't seen that before, but it is cool! I would totally use it in a weird war game, even if I did have to replace a few things to make it look more the scale it should be.

Awesome find, thanks for posting! I am looking forward to seeing your finished :)

Gaaaaah, I SOOOOOO ENVY YOU! :o

Even though it doesn´t really fit with the "early war" style for my Weird War II Germans... it´s just too cool.

I have one of those still awaiting construction :)

Great model, lots of really tiny parts.

It is a classical injection moulded kit (quality is en par with Hasegewa or Tamiya).

Sadly the alternate weapon option sprue is missing (not by accident) although it is described in the instruction manual. A second release featuring the other weapon option was planned, but the Dust website is sadly outdated... AFAIK Paolo runs the Dust thing as hobby project.

The GUNTHER should easily fit with smaller scales. I planned on using them with my Hasslefree Grymm army (you know smal men and big guns) or as Weird War Pulpy Nazi project.

Great beast, with this size you can make it a two- or three-seater.
If you come for the king, you better not miss (Omar)

Received my "Gunther" today................WOW!
It won't take a lot of effort to convert it to 28mm (if any at all!!)
CyberWolf 1971 I must have struck lucky as mine came with both weapon load-outs!!!
Here's a better pick from the construction manual:

There are two more Mechs listed in the booklet but they aren't on the Dust website.
These are the M45 Walker:

and the "Big Joseph":

I'm gonna have real fun building this kit!

That sounds great - maybe I should order another one :)

Have you checked the actual sprues? The second option is present in my instruction manual - but the sprue is missing.

As for the other mechs... I really hope that someday they are gonna release this... btw it seems the website has finally something new (comic and card game?)

I checked the Sprue list and the alternative load-out is sprue "G" which I have two of included in the kit ( The large single gun instead of the twin ones).
As for the other kits, I'l keep my fingers crossed!!! :)

Just finished a mock up build of my walker. I haven't attached any details and some parts aren't glued for ease of painting.
I am amazed at the "joints" on this model, with some of the "pistons" actually working as you move the model!!!
I have built the first weapon load-out ( I'll do the other one over the weekend).
Here's a size comparison with a Westwind Zombie.

I think a nice weathered Dark Yellow will suit this bad boy!

Wow, that's a monster.  It looks like it will fit in just fine with 28s as is.
