Rocket Corps Refuelling Station Project
« on: August 08, 2010, 02:10:40 AM »
Our group is going to run a pulp era game this fall that will feature a lot of use of my rocket corps troops, so I've decided to build some specific terrain to support the new campaign.  The first project is a rocket refuelling station that will surely be threatened, defended, attacked, and/or blown up in some future game.

I took a wander through a couple of local yard sales and found most of what I needed.  I spent $1 on an old rocket and launch tower model kit that was missing some pieces, and 25 cents on a plastic toy farm grain silo that will simply need a new paint job.  I added two old plastic camera film roll canisters I had lying around, and a bunch of little extras from the trusty bits box.  Spent about an hour and managed to get the basic structures done.

Bits box and inspirational pint of beer ...

Step 1 - The base structure with various control panels, warning siren, and fire bucket.

Step 2 - The fuel reservoirs ...

Step 3 - Test fitting the pieces plus a scale check with a "pulp figures" figure.  So far so good ...

Sidetrack - Enough interesting bits to make some sort of small tracked vehicle, perhaps a carrier for extra rocket packs or something similar.  Will also need a refuelling truck.  More on this later.

This is the toy farm silo.  It'll likely just need a new paint job, the scale and detail is pretty good.

I'll post some more pics once I get the thing painted.  Vehicles will come next.

Looks like you're off to a really good start there (including the beer!).  I'm looking forward to seeing what your final model looks like.

Looking good so far. The only change I would make is to remove the small fence or make it bigger.

Looks great so far!
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

Oh, Rocket Corps! One of the two best Pulp themes ever.

Steady on!
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Looking good, although you might want to consider how the models w/o jetpacks/rocket packs are going to cross where the figure in your picture is standing to the wheel area.

The refuelling station project progresses slowly but steadily.  I switched focus for a bit to finish painting my first batch of rocketeers as well as some other figs. For our game they've been designated as "His Majesty’s Royal Naval Air Station Middle East - 73rd (East Westshire) Regiment, Royal Rocket Corps",  The Commander in the pith helmet is a Coppletone figure, with the rest coming from the usual Pulp Figures lines.  I'll also be giving them a 'mascot' - I'm using the Pulp Figures Bulldog mini but he's not finished yet.  Sorry for the picture quality, just took them quickly with my pocket digital camera.  Anyway, more to follow sometime soon, I'll post some new and better shots when the scenery is further developed.   Hope you like them.

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DOES THIS!
Derelict appliances are really great sources of bits.
