'Le Monde' is French for 'The World' and is a French newspaper. It was originally founded in 1944 but we've pushed the boundaries a bit with the history as it sound good as a name  :)

What?! It is not authentic to the setting?! You have just ruined it all for me, you non-historical-correctness-bastard...

Duh, should have been obvious, like water in Mars in the 19th century? Everybody knows Mars dried up during the late middle ages ;)

You'll just have to get your psudo-history fix from elsewhere then  ;D

In that case, I'm a bit disappointed that the journalist in one of the images isn't sucking on a Gauloises  :D

I'm sure I can find a suitable figure to convert  :D

Well, if it is the News of 'Le Monde' it needs loads of sleazy headlines and nonsense stuff.
I have some 28mm scale newspapers with suitable headlines if you want some scatter stuff for the pavements around the building. They are in the Evening Standard in English but that shouldnt be too much of a problem, rival newspapers being scattered on the floor, especially if they are selling them in New Victoria....
 ;)

Thanks everyone for your continued support  :)

'Tis a good question  :)

The canals on Mars are still flowing and there are plenty of wells and aquifers that go deep to the water table. The red colour everyone associates with Mars is from the dust swept up by the massive storms that plague the planet, coming from the soft, sandstone like, stone that is common. There are many different types of rock strata on Mars, just buried under the sand and dust. Quarries for the different stones are not too close but the designers of New Victoria have tried to utilise the same type of colours as would be found on Earth to help make it feel more like home and less alien. The ovens for the bricks are fed mainly by dung gathered from the local fauna which is a very good fuel source, if a tad pungent.

Great answer!

It's true. There are large sandstone beds recorded at the base of Mount Sharp on Mars, for example. The sandstone,  mudstone and conglomerate are evidence of water action. Clay minerals are also commonplace on Mars. The red staining is indeed iron oxide and would not mean that everything below the surface is red. It would probably stain the sandstone over time but I'd imagine that recreating 'home' is exactly what Victorian Colonial powers would do.

Started work on another print building, this time it's the Illustrated London News headquarters.

Still the roof, windows, signage and doors to do but it's nearly there  :)

Looking good so far, much more prestigious than the squalid Le Monde building  lol

I reckon that not-Penguin will make a decent Robert Maxwell-type figure as the proprietor.

Splendid. Glad to see they've got a seizable building to contain all those presses. Will you be doing a detailed working interior with scale newspapers that have details of that AARs printed on them?  ;) :D
