Damn awesome, Jimbo! While I'm highly uninterested with VSF (I think it's a local thing), I do have to admit that this does tingle my interest :-*

I was having a think last night and I'm probably going to go with something like the image below but with the addition of either something like the picture you've got Andy or suspension cabling...

Do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!  ;D

And make me one while you're at it  ;)
Don't!

Well, you cheated with the brickwork, so I did not think that you would have too many objections..... ::)

Rubbish! It's been hard enough matching the courses round whatever I'm making (no course is the same as any other  ::) )

It'll give you spare time to find a set of rules!  lol

We've got one now  ;D Just needs modding, playtesting, finalising and getting the others on board  lol

Do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!  ;D

And make me one while you're at it  ;)

Already started to draw it at home and I could make you one if you really want one  ;) :D

cheers

Why?

Anyway, started work on the canal bridge mock up just to get a rough idea of what I want for it. It'll all be done out of acrylic and sprayed the same green as the rest of the metal parts in the project, you can also see the bridge stanchion in progress (need to make the other end yet).

And just because, a view down the track... Which is a bit naff...

Still debating on either suspension or girder support for the top  ???

cheers

Jim

As much as I like gratuitous girders and truss work, in the second bridge which you are mocking up, the supporting arch is underneath the box, so there is absolutely no need for a second supporting arch as in the first bridge.

So arches over top with suspension cabling plus supporting arches beneath would be too many arches.

The box bridge with the arches beneath is simple and matches nicely with your stone arches.

But a suspension bridge like in the first pic would be stunning and give an interesting counterpoint to the aforementioned arches.

@James - yes, you're right but I think I might plead the excuse for the very high Martian winds that occur and the extra support is needed  :D It won't be as much as the picture that Andy found, just a simple cable from the top of the stanchions and the corresponding ties.

For the inside I'll be either doing a wooden deck or covering it in the same gravel as on the arches as bridges from the Victorian era seemed to have either one or the other.

We have guests round at the moment so progress will slow a little but I'll try and get some more done tonight  :D

cheers
