And yet I've still never gotten around to visiting Kew  ::)

There's always BLAm, we could organise a visit! (and then there's Wisley). ;)

I know a fella who used to work there..... ;)

That's okay. Parterre got a bit of a renaissance in the UK during the latter half of the 19th Century (fell out of favour in the early 1700's). It was slightly different in that it used blocks of coloured planting to form the shapes and forms rather than just the hedging but hedging was still used in places. The flowers/plants used were annuals so lived and died in the one year, requiring a full replant each time. This did allow them to showcase the 'latest' horticultural fashions though :)

Clearly the officer residing is a bit of a traditionalist who likes the hedging. Also, given the harsher climate the block colour planting only lasts a short time and has currently been cleared in preparation for the replanting.

(I don't know, botany lessons on monocot plants not long ago and now garden history. Clearly my time at uni wasn't totally wasted  :D)

Nice one Dean! It sounds like we had similar lectures.

And now we get to use them for toy soldiers! Yay for kind of pointless uni lectures! (Really interesting, but not of a great deal of use in normal life :))

Incidentally, one of the best examples of a true High Victorian Garden is in the middle of Alton Towers. Given the cost of entry however, people rarely take the time to enjoy the gardens while rushing to the next adrenalin packed ride.

Anyway, back to the Japanese :)

Excellent gardening tips chaps, noted for future reference  :D

If Victoria barracks is to be British, the guard boxes should be royal blue - just saying  ;)

Bugger  lol

How big will this board be at Salute?

Er... Six by four for New Victoria and then the same again but rotated 90 degrees for the viaduct (I think). If I get a chance I'll take a picture of the cad plan I've got.

cheers

James

Kew or Wisley?

Kew.

Only mentioned it just in case there is a liking for a BLAM trip in that direction sometime.
 ;)

Although, what with Bibbles going a bit soft and all, there is a danger that he may not want to leave.....

I wrote a list of what's left to do and it's not as bad as I first thought  :D

Still going to run out of time though  lol

I know the feeling but it's not helped by you posting these lovely photos - the barracks and residency are exceptional and as for that viaduct  :o

I think I ought to take a hammer to my stuff and start again  :)

Well, after a couple of weeks casting I can back on to making the Salute table  ::)

The viaduct will have a spur line and the signal box is already made (way back on page 32) but I was at a loss on how to have it on the viaduct and then it came to me the other day and I built a biggish tower for it to sit on. Just wip photos for now but I'm ramping it up a notch to get everything finished  :D

Working on the residency roof as well which should be roughed out tonight.

cheers

James

Great idea, the signal box looks quite imposing now.  ;D

It should make a nice target for a Martian attack. It will need to be defended before it gets burned. :P

Kew is overrated unless you are a bush, plant or tree.

If you like spending your time with a jumbo flying over every two minutes its great fun...

Equally wisley is quite dull as well...

Jim the vsf stuff is looking great. Will training be available for Saturday week? I assume being a back drop boy requires a great deal of skill?

Thanks gents  :)

Residency roof is roughed out and I made a glaring error  :-[ you can't see it in the photos and I'm not going to point it out  ;D

Needs details, possible chimneys and painting. Also the front portico needs to be done but I came up with a quick and effective way of doing it but it'll have to wait a few days. Highlights and weathering to the railings and walls and it's ready to go  :D

Ps is that my ballon in the background?   ???

I've told you where your balloon is  lol

We have the H&S forms ready with the proper equipment  :D

Who is the young, slim, handsome chap in the wedding photo?

My evil twin  >:D

cheers
