Hi does anyone use one to paint, does it work for detailing?

Thanks

I have one of those lamps with the magnifier in the center.
I use it sometimes to look at a figure, study detail or try to ID an odd bit, but not for painting.
I tried it, and you can see the figure bigger, but your hands are still the same size as is your brush.  In the end all it does is show me in great detail what I'm messing up.
Kind of screws up your depth perception too, at least in my case.

Others, however, seem to enjoy using them so you may find it useful.  You'll really just need to try it I think.

I use it to paint with.

It allows me to sit more comfortably in my chair and paint with the anglepoise lamp and magnifier at a suitable distance so that I'm not hunched up and squinting. Its allowed me to add greater detail without the corresponding eye strain and throw direct "day" light through a bulb onto my subject.

Personally I swear by it. I'm about to get one for my desk so I can paint at work during lunch!

I bought one not so long ago. It’s the type with the magnifying glass in the middle of a daylight bulb. I find it great for doing the fine detail. I use the light all the time and only open up the magnifying glass when I get to the small bits.

sorry meant to add this

I buy cheap disposable half frame or small area glasses from bargain shops or chemists.

I have a range from 1.5 to to 4x magnification. They generally only cost a few dollars and you can use them on the bridge of your nose for magnification while looking over them when you need true length perspective.

I've tried all sorts of magnification lamps and clip-ons. The glasses are by far the most effective and cheap option for me.

Sorry when I bought mine the guy did say he was phasing out the delux version of the one I bought. I think he also imports them and has to wait on them coming. Try contacting him. His name is Dennis.
