The first house is here!

The first house is here!

I must admit that that I had quite a period of not doing any hobby at all but I guess that is over now.

After some test sculpts I think I found a nice new theme to work on for the upcoming month.
The first of a whole series of houses is finally finished.

The series of houses I am intending to make will all be related to boat themes as you can see in this first house. I still have to make descriptions/stories for these houses to tell about its inhabitants and what they do for a living.

The house is build up out of 4 individual sides. In this way you can assemble houses to your liking by picking different facades. Apart from the 2 different facades (front and back) on this house I already made 2 more (hope to show these in the next building)

The rain pipes are loose elements as well as the chimneys. The 2 lanterns that are used are also loose elements.

The banners are made of thin metal foil and toothpicks.

I made lots of pictures during the sculpting phase of one of the facades. Along with the assembling and painting of this house I will try to make a new topic on my website somewhere in August.

I hope you like the work and feel free to comment.

Greetings
Geboom

Thats a nice building.  Fits in well with your other items.

I particularly like the way you have incorporated boats into the structure, very clever.

Hey Geboom,

it looks fantastic on the pictures, I really love it.

Tomorrow I will visit Foundry in Nottingham, so I can pick up the new civillians packs for you. They will fit marvelous to this scenery.

Go on building!

Gorgeous! I can't wait to hear the story of the owners!

It really is a magnificent building. Like the Guildhall of the Navigators.

Just a short update
« Reply #11 on: August 03, 2007, 11:54:49 AM »
Just a short update:

Today and during the weekend “Lurch” will visit me and hopefully we will have some hobbytime together.
We will be doing some test runs on casting with a special resin mix and also will work with the vacuum machine. These tests hopefully will result in saving on material to cut on costs producing this and future houses.
Besides that we might do some sculpting as well. The second house is already assembled apart from one side that I am currently carving and will be ready this weekend for sure.

During the upcoming week I will assemble and paint the second house and might even start on the gate building that has to go in between these 2 houses. The front side of the gate is already finished (in the foam stage that is) and the mold will be made also during this weekend.

The text about the design and building of the first house is almost done. I still have to sort out the colours I used and write that down. (I hardly ever do that).
The most enjoyable part was writing the four stories that will go with the four facades.

The first house has the story of “Old Captain Knucklebones” and “Merchant Smoothes” attached to it. The second house has the stories of “Lady Bloomsburry” and “Master Nylon Ykes” attached to it.

Future plans:
Although I think that the houses have to go on an elevated area behind the docks and that I have to carve a raised platform I will not start working on that for a while.
(I made a test piece once that was on display at the Tactica)
I want to focus on houses for now so after the second house is done and the gate that goes in between I will start a new series of facades.
I want to make a series of facades (or “gevels’ as we call them) like the once you find in Amsterdam. Again they will have nautical features worked in to them. This future set will be situated on the other side of the harbour doors.

OK, enough chit chat for now. I better get started on doing some serious hobby to get things done around here.

Yes Buzgob that is what I am aiming for.
The 2 houses and the gate house has to be ready at that moment.
Once these are done I have to make a few castst so I might sell some at Crisis along with some new castst of the boats, docks and subs.
I hope to have more houses ready when Tactica is there.
