Victorian Pumping Station
« on: August 29, 2010, 01:30:43 PM »
This build is something I've been plugging away at in between other builds and is going to be the centre piece of a VSF game I'm planning. It's tantilizingly close to being finished; there's just the perimeter wall, some pipework from the gasometer to the building and some signage to complete but it may be a few weeks before I get these done as something else has taken priority.

Much credit goes to Svennn as he put the main structure and the gasometer together for me. All I did was paint them and add the details.

The storage tank is part of a HO scale lineside oil tank and some other bits I had lying around. The wall around it is scratchbuilt as are the stairs.

I'll thought I'd post a couple of pics for suggestions on anything obvious I've missed or additions/alterations I can make (other than a Martian tripod looming up behind it).

That's incredible work Thunderchicken, you keep coming up with bigger and better stuff with every post. Keep it up!

P.S. I think the building would look nice with a tea light stuck underneath to make the insides glow.

You forgot the tripod looming up behind it  ;D  ;D

Wonderful stuff once again dear boy  :) How about a set of stairs that go up the outside of the gastank.

Great stuff :-* :-* :-*
It is one of the things I have been thinking about building in the future, so thanks for the inspiration and ideas that I can steal.
Where is the big arched window from?
A very nice addition to your town.

Looks great with some paint and all the details added.

GM - the window is homemade by printing the frames onto acetate sheet.

Absolutely lovely stuff! There were a few gasometers that I remember from taking the bus or train into the city centre when I was growing up in Dublin, and I've always loved them. It's great to see it here. Should make a great gaming piece as well! Lots of possibilities for derring-do!

Cheers chaps, your feedback is valued as always.

Jimbib, you could be on to something with the stairs, I'll have a play.

This is my favoured building in the project to date so thanks again to Svennn for his help.

Fear not Hawkeye, this beauty is going to be used for anything from an Aeronef fuelling station to a Quatermass Experiment cliffhanger waiting to go all wrong  ;)

Yeap definately missing the Tripod just before the things goes up like a sky rocket, though even again that would be shame for such a nice piece of work!

Once more, absolutely gorgeous work. Do we get to see a group shot? You must have quite an industrial suburb by now.
