VSF Podcast Episode
« on: August 31, 2010, 02:25:11 PM »
I am wanting to do one, but I have some concerns.

If you were introducing this genre to people, what rule systems/miniature lines would you include?

I definatly want to include a flyer miniature rule system for sure, if I can get some to review.

Thanks in advance

You would want to talk about all of the various rules systems I suppose. Debate the pros and cons of each. Could be an interesting project.

I want to cover Aeronef for sure, if Brigade is willing.

What about 28mm, skirmish?

I have, so far, Aeronef, Land Ironclads and Martian empires

Given this is supposed to 'introduce the genre', I'd think I'd start simple and general if talking about rules, mentioning examples towards the end.

However, I should think the real beginning is showing people the origins, Victorian 'rippin' yarns' and the stories of Empire.

Then, move to the introduction of science fiction, including the fiction of Wells and Verne, the films of Melies, perhaps mentioning some particular experiences. You know I'd be including James Mason on the Nautilus. ;->=

But we don't want to just read or placidly watch, we want to act, and to share the action. I'm not sure but you might want to mention the 'in person' aspect versus on line. Justifying toy soldiers and their 'toy conveyances' is a constant battle.

Too much?

Are you talking just miniatures combat or are you including role-playing as well?
Because Pinnacle is releasing Space:1889 Red Sands for it's Savage Worlds line.

Mostly minis, as I have trouble getting product from a few RPG companies. I will mention it though.

I still need some 28mm rules.  :'(
