starting 15mm Resing Building line
« on: September 15, 2010, 12:08:30 PM »
Hi everyone!

inspired by the last works on this section (very thanks to Antaak), i've decided to make some 15mm buildings for Old West settings.
anybody interested?

i would like to star this line, but i wanted to know if there should be some people (at least remotely) interested in buying some resin parts for old west buildings.

just curious.

now i'm making some stuff for Brigade Games, but in the "free time" i was thinking to make a house facade and a water tank.

please tell me your thoughts!

cheers

Jack

For me the best solution would be to have a couple of generic backs and interchangeable fronts.

I'm not sure about the roof requirement - buildings look great with them on but it is tempting to use the inside for some skirmishes and hiding the bad guys.

One thing that is missing is rail-road parts:

  • Station platform
  • Station house / waiting rooms
  • Signals
  • Telegraph poles

A nice selection of "scatter" would not go a miss anything from water troughs through to hitching posts could be handy

cool, thanks for the exaustive reply!

yep, that's what i was thinking for. the fronts are the most important things, but making some backs will be the next steps.

the roof should be removed easily, so i don't see why not.
all the buildings are 1 floor or 2, so it should be pretty easy to make that work.
of course the front will stay in one piece either way.

does 15mm trains exist?
They do indeed:

Given 15mm is about 1/108 you can get some HO scale trains at 1/87 that look OK.

For specialists you can get 3mm scale trains http://www.3smr.co.uk/ at around 1/100 and TT scale at 1/120

Peter Pig has some lovely rolling stock http://www.peterpig.co.uk/range15.htm and have a look at http://ordinarygaming.blogspot.com/2010/05/old-glory-15mm-train-good-bad-really.html for a crushing review of the Old Glory set  :-[

interesting.
but i don't like the peter pig sculpts of the train and wagon. they look really poor quality ones. :(

back to the original topic: you all think that making 15mm stuff should be of interest for someone else but me? :)

Whilst I don't game the Old West, I do game the ACW and I tend to build my own buildings and couldn't tell you the last time I bought a resin one :D

Over the years I've tended to build items I need such as chimney's window frames from scratch and even though I now cast these myself in resin, I'm always on the lookout for new items I may be able to use. Depending on the parts and the cost of the items I may be interested.

For me the best solution would be to have a couple of generic backs and interchangeable fronts.

I made some masters for a company some years ago like this. I had around five or six different fronts with a couple being two story. I also made about four or five backs, including a two story back, with different types of roofing. The front boardwalk and porch were also seperate as were a couple of lean-to's which could be added to the back or sides. The modular design created quite a few possibilities.

The roofs were not seperate as they weren't required to be.

Cheers,

Barry

do you have some imgs for inspiration? :)

btw,i started sculpting a Water Tank
pretty clean sculpt, everything texturized. I think i'll not be able to paint it properly, but if done correctly could become pretty nice!

Sangennaru,

Yes, absolutely, I would be interested!  How about windows and doors designed to glue on flat to walls for those of us scratchbuilding in 15 mm.  Also, pot belly stoves, shelves and things for stores, the cigar store indian, the barber pole.  When I have more time I can really get you exhausted with my laundry list of wishes of things.  I'd be much more interested in these sorts of "scatter" details than in building fronts and backs - lots of wild west buildings out there in 15 mm, plus anything ACW will work and much designed for the AWI period can be adapted.  But very little in the way of details, some from Peter Pig and some from Stone Mountain (in there ACW range).
