* Bridge over the Onaceedee Creek (WiP photo, 6 Oct)
« on: October 01, 2010, 08:20:01 AM »
I desire a small bridge to add to my terrain collection. I've already done a lot of stuff on CDs. There's this contest on, which is now a race to see who will come in second behind Silent Invader. ;) The contest entry deadline isn't for a month yet.

No pictures yet, but I'm doing a small wooden bridge over a narrow creek; the rest of the creek/stream will be mattboard, so not eligable for this contest, but the bridge works.

Some earlier CD-based road terrain, which the road approaches of this bridge will match up with:

I've laid out the banks of the stream with scraps of foamcore already, and stained most of the timber for the bridge. Wooden footings for the bridge are in progress, and I might plaster the banks into place tonight as well, if the glue on the footings dries fast enough.

Wooden bridge footings done for each end of the bridge, banks of the stream in place, plaster+white glue mix applied to the ground areas, base coat of paint done everywhere, base coat of gravel glued down.

The footings are a scrap of foamcore edged with bamboo skewers for logs; the banks are more slivers of scrap foamcore backed with plaster.

I'll finish the painting this weekend, do three or so coats of gloss varnish on the water parts, then start flocking and the bridge deck.

The donor CD is some Windows app so old it had a "Win98 Compatible!" logo on it...

Another quick photo update...

Finally got the water painted acceptably; the first attempt had massive cracking from being too fast with layers over wet layers; the second looked like arse. Third time was the charm, but I have no idea how many paint layers are on the thing now.

Two coats of gloss varnish done, probably two more to do tomorrow, then the bridge deck, flock, reeds along the shore, etc

Bridge deck glued down & weathered, rails glued down, nail holes poked with a pin, first layer of flocking double-glued, bushes added, reeds added to the riverbanks (need more of them), last touchup of gloss varnish on the creek itself...

It's close enough to done now that I really can't post another photo...

The race to come second behind Silent Invader continues!  ;)
