Well, given how 'terrifying' the giant rat was on the TV, a plush glove puppet should just about do the trick! 

Just get a grey sock and stitch a couple of buttons on for eyes. I'm sure that's all the Beeb did. Failing that you might get an old Roland Rat toy from a boot sale 

Two lovely figures! I agree the Homunculous is a nasty piece of work (obviously character, not painting  ).

I think you should do mini versions of Jago and Lightfoot. Great pair of characters and deserve their own audio series. Should be easy to find proxies for them.

I was going to suggest exactly those figures that Malamute has done. Should be plenty in there for your needs.
