Pirate Sloop WIP
« on: October 04, 2010, 10:26:00 AM »
I had a crack at a 28mm pirate sloop / schooner for LOTHS over the weekend.

Here's the half finished result:

http://jimswargamesworkbench.blogspot.com/2010/10/pirate-sloop-2.html

It's built on a sandwich of three layers of 5mm balsa, with hull sides from 1mm card and other details from thinner cereal box type card. The mast is an oversized barbecue skewer and kebab skewer, tied up with thread and with a washer as a very small crowsnest. The bowsprit is a chopstick and kebab skewer, again tied together with heavy duty thread.

It took me about four hours to get to this point but I still need to add some extra details, as textured sea base and then paint it up.

That looks really good , I might try that method to do a larger boat someday.

That's very, very nice.  Similar in style to the Sea Dog sloop by Games of War, which it'd complement nicely. Please do share finished photos in due course.   8)

Nice stuff, inspiring too... if only I had the time (and some talent lol )

Hey - that's great! I will be stealing ideas from that absolutely shamelessly when 'pirates' bubble to the top of my project pile again.

Brilliant job! I too was reminded of the Games of War model, but it's cool to see a scratch-built version.

that is nice.

I keep wanting to do some slavers and gunboats for my colonial stuff but the thought of cutting out a nice symetrical hull fills me with anxiety.

Masts and rigging fill me with even more anxiety.

Me too.

I'd love to do a gunboat and some dhows for Darkest Africa but have yet to work out how to go about it.

I suppose i should paint up some figures first really  ;)
