Men of Bronze and Iron
« on: October 07, 2010, 08:45:07 AM »
Hello,

I am in the prozess of painting my first 22MMM HOTT army:

Men of Bronze and Iron (and some beasts)

And I proudly present the first images of my army (although my painting skill are somewhat limited):

Thanks.

22 mm, you say? Very close to 1:72?

I had no idea that somebody produced 22 mm - scales are all over the place these days  :)

For such small ones, painting is more than adequate - I only ever block out 1:72/20 mm Naps and ancients, cant be bothered fiddling with shading/hightlights when painting armies of several hundred small soldier.

But when an army consists of elements with a small number of models on each, spending a little extra time makes a huge difference.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Sorry, I made a mistake.

Those are 25MM miniature, not 22MM.

Stupid me.

Gladiators  are from Foundry and Crusader, the bear from DeeZee and the Celts from Renegade.

Over the last three years my painting technique got much better.

Still, they are nice enough for unit stands, I think.

I'd suggest for your next humans (or humanoids, whatever) you try painting the eye-sockets dark - then dot in the eye with an off-white or bone color before doing the iris/pupille with a 0.05 marker or a very thin and stiff brush.

Also, make sure that the dark spot in the eye touches the upper and lower rim of the eye.

You will find that focussing a little effort on the eyes will make the whole face improve a lot

Thanks Argonor.

Next time I paint eyes I will use your methode.
I hope that my clumsy finger will cope.

I like to plan campaigns during painting sessions and just today I had the idea for a new one:

Hott Days in Rome
During the the year 69AD, while civil war racks the empire , in Rome several private armies are fighting for supremacy:

the lanista Asteropaeus and his men of bronze and iron , the gladiators

the gangleader Spiculus and his motley crew of streetfighters, cuthtroats, runaway legionaries and escaped slaves

the prefect of the Praetorians Purpureus and his troopers

and the Senator Marcus Silvanus Proshodus and his household troops.

I don´t know if I am ever going to paint all this miniatures but just to think how teach army could look like is fun enough.
