Travelleresque Imperial marines in 28mm
« on: October 11, 2010, 07:31:05 AM »
Hi there.

I am trying to take advantage of the current widespread availability of 28/30mm sci-fi prepaints (AT-43, Star Wars, Halo, HeroClix, etc.) as a source of cheap minis for roleplaying and skirmish wargaming, but there is a hole in the human (non-alien) range I have been unable to plug so far: Imperial Imperial Marines.

http://members.tip.net.au/~davidjw/libdata/alphabet/b/batdress.htm

I know GZG make excellent stand-ins (the UNSC troopers in hard suits), that Denizen have their Federation/Ventaurans and that Grenadier had a box of 3I marines back in the ol' days - but alas all those are true 25's and thus quite incompatible with the ranges I mention in the first paragraph.

What are my choices here?

And that is the beginning - I still have not the slightest idea of what to use as K'kree or Hivers...

Thanks!

Reaper's Chronoscope line has some corporate troopers that stylistically remind me a lot of Imperial Marines, especially in the helmets:

Pig Iron System Troops would work in the body, but the helmets aren't right: If you could find 28mm medieval sallet-wearing separate heads, you could easily convert these, as the heads do not come attached.

For that matter, you could even get some WOTC Star Wars prepaint stormtroopers and replace the helmets and maybe weapons. In a pinch they would work.

I have been long looking for a 28mm option myself!  :D :D :D

Pig Iron also have other heads that look more like the one you posted:

Other than that the image you linked to reminded me of GW's Tau:

Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

Well, what about these from Antenociti's Workshop:

They'll need a little work, but are a decent base to start from.

There are some nifty conversions here, or if you're completely mad like you could try something like this:

Major, those are uber-cool, but I am afraid that's the wrong brand of Imperial.  :D :D :D

Oh yeah, sorry!  ;D

Um, I'll have a look and see if I can find anything more suitable then...
