More and more Shapeways stuff to call to my walet  o_o

Problem is the cost though - to get a fleet needs a fair number (most are only 1 inch in size) and I ain't got that money  :'(

I love the Assault walker here

Thanks, WGG!! Looking it over now.

I like that the ships look similar to a certain iconic sci-fi show. They could be advanced ships. Or you could run a parallel universe type thingie.  :)

Beautiful little models!

I'd love to see the VTOL done in 28mm  ;D

That would be fun! I always enjoyed the "parallel universe" episodes in that sci-fi show you mention. You can't have too many dodgy beards and facial scars in tv sci-fi as far as I'm concerned!

Problem is the cost though

The problem is the (print) quality - its crap. And, yes, that includes Shapeways' best quality: its still VERY sub-par and the stand white-n-flexible leaves all of these with horrid striations and missing detail.

which is a crying shame as they are great designs...if only he'd get them cast up properly by Ninja Magic.

why have excellent designs which can only be printed with most of the detail horribly obscured by printing lines?

it baffles me...

I agree, when I first saw a picture of one of the printed models the printing pattern on it made me believe it was somebodies knitted version of a ship or something.  ;D

There's been some pics lately over at Starship Combat News forums of these in various material finishes and I agree as well... not very good. Shame as the designs are perfect for a not-Trek gaming project. I think someone asked the artist about getting the designs produced in metal/resin. Not sure why he opted for the Shapeways route. Shame.

I thought these were metal, plastic, or resin. They're not? Where does it say this?  :(

Shapeways are a 3D printing company and looses a lot of details due to the current resolution of the printers they use.

Have a look at this video for an overview and their youtube page http://www.youtube.com/user/Shapeways

Yeah the renders look lovely but currently the scan lines on the models are pretty nasty. Give it 5 years and the prints will match the renders... no more lead  :'(
