VSF Mini Sub
« on: October 20, 2010, 08:37:36 AM »
Alright guys (and girls)? This is the first thread I've ever started on this forum. Some of you might already know me as gamer mac's brother. I've already helped him make something for LAF, but never felt I would be able to contribute enough to join your fantastic site.

Anyway after being allowed to come to blam(thanks by the way. The show was brill!) and meeting some of you great people I came away with a renewed interest in pulp and vsf stuff. I was planning to take a break after the show and not build anything(I'd been staring at the the back end of a Zeppelin for six months!). That didn't last long though!

After twiddling my thumbs for half an hour I had to start building something again...

I always liked 22,000 leagues under the sea and after seeing a mechanical fish posted on here recently i thought I would try and make my own cheaper version.

All it is, is card stock covered with glossy magazine covers. I've found that if I use a ballpoint pen I can emboss rivets and panel lines very quickly and cheaply on to my models.

Its supposed to be a fish. Dont know what type. This was what I was using for inspiration

This is roughly what I'm trying to achieve...

Again the one I had seen before is done by a talented guy called fichtenfoo. His seems to be a limited run model. So I thought I might be able to knock out a couple for an underwater game we'd like to run at some point.

Now I understand what's going on.   :)

I'm easily confused...  :D

Looks like a great idea... will be watching keenly for further progress.

Armament? Hmmm...

You could try either a variant on the US navy's Howell torpedo in use in the 1890s (http://www.hnsa.org/doc/howell/index.htm), or go more esoteric and experiment with Gamlington-Smyth's Patent Galvanic Discharge Trident (never officially used by any navy, but definately purchased in large numbers by both sides during the brief Second War between the States of 1874-5) for impaling enemy submersibles and giving them a nasty shock  :D

Its looking good already Andy. :-*

I can't wait to see it develop. I like the idea of the terror fish type craft from Stingray. There's a possible game for BLAM 2011, VSF undersea action........ ;D
