Just built up and undercoated a 1/50 plastic train from Arii.
I think its WAY too modern looking for VSF but I will paint it up and see.
I'm thinking about putting a cattle catcher ( Zombie Catcher..?) on the front and converting some Goldlok toy plastic carriages for it to pull. The carriages will be armoured with suitable weapon mounts to fend of undead hordes.
If it doesn't fit into my VSF stuff I'll probably use it for a small "Unhallowed Metropolis" project I'm planning.

28mm Mini to give an idea of scale:

I like it. Needs a couple of smoke stacks.
So many projects..... so little time.......

I'd agree - it's a lovely model, but probably more steampunk than VSF. I think the main thing that pushes the envelope are the aerodynamic cowling at the front and around the smokestack, steam dome and other tidbits on top of the boiler.

It would work marvellously in a "Final Fantasy" type game, or the "Metropolis" slant you mentioned (both Lang's original and Osamu Tezuka's/Katsuhiro Otomo's homage).

More exposed steam pipes would be good for the steampunk angle, whereas decorative metal (brass) fittings might make it look more VSF-ish.

Any links as to where I can purchase one?
Wonderful model, for VSF paint the Train either Gloss Blue, Red , Green with Black on Roof, Boiler front, Wheel arches/side plates!!! and lots of brass detailing, And maybe a bit of flamboyance (a crest, areas of marbelling)
Use actual steam train livery as a guide but with more brass and flamboyance.
For steam punk I would go with the main body work either or a combination of Rusty metal, Browns, aged Copper or Blacks highlighted with greens or blues, with all the detailing painted in brass, bronze, silver, gunmetal and a range of other metallic shades everyting suitably aged and dirty

I think that it is completely suitable for VSF, although a smoke stack would not be out of place

Hmmmm coal fired rail engine generating steam power, fits both, visual is the determinator for theme. VSF more brick/a/brac detailing, Steampunk more pipes and guages as detailing, oh and levers  :D

Looks quite 'Batman' to me, which isn't necessarily a bad thing at all. What is the miniature, though? It looks great!

Looks alot like one of the Foundry Victoriana stuff, had a quick browse but no dice. Similiarities in the Jack the Ripper collection, but none with a gun..

Seriously nice train, though...
Best regards

I agree with Chris.  I wouldn't add a smokestack for the simple reason it will kill the aerodinamic lines of the engine.  Simply put: I would not add anything beyond its current outline, but concentrate on extra pipes, fittings and lanterns.

See, I would add a smoke stack (possibly two) but I'd put them at a 45 degree angle pointing back along the train.

Yeah maybe some external small boiler's wouldn't look out of place either.

I'd love to know where you got it from as well..Always struggled to find a train i like the look of.

Okay, I'm still uncertain about the whole Steampunk vs. whatever issue, but have to admit it can be covered in about anything, hacked-and-cut, to run anytime, but my first reaction is Pulp.

PM said way too modern, and I think it has that feel rather strongly.

Is this the D51 Slag Type with side plating left off? Not a railroad affectiando, member of other brown anorak groups though I be. This image is closest I could find.

Cant say if its VSF or steampunk, I tend to fall on the steampunk end of it all anyway. (Might be my age?)
I do want to say it looks like it could fit in perfectly with your other stuff. I mean next to tiny Tim or the coffin this would look perfectly OK. However due to its elegant design I would suggest it belonging to some slick corporate organization?  Ie the flowing parts of it not being from a aerodynamic design point but from a stylistic one.

And indeed rivets, crests and lanters would help, but it would fit with your other stuff!

EDIT: all of that is also to say, I want to see what wonders you can work with this as a basis.
