Scratch-built Altar and Font
« on: October 29, 2010, 12:40:44 PM »
I need some furniture to populate the buildings of Dertflinghan and I started with the church. The altar is made from cardboard and thin card. The vase on the top is an old shell casing. I'll add flowers later.

The font was made from a small wooden flower pot with the rim sawed off and a plastic wall anchor. The intrepid hunters need access to holy water.

Excellent stuff Jet. An inspred choice of materials. I can almost hear the choirs singing in the background :)

Excellent, indeed!

I'd have never thought of the wall anchor, but, in the image, looks like alabaster.

Stunning!

Thanks guys.

I've come up with the following beta rules for the church in our Chaos in Carpathia games:
  • Characters with the Vampire special rule must make a TN3 Resolve check before entering a church.
  • The first human model to reach the font can take one free flask of holy water or (in the case of vampire henchmen and thralls) dump the contents of the font to prevent others from getting it.
  • Human characters from Monster Hunter or Bruderschaft warbands may use a special action to kneel at the altar and pray. Make a TN# roll where # is equal to the character's Resolve. Every two full successes grants the character 1 free Fate Point. Characters with the True Faith skill gain one bonus Fate Point in addition to the result of their Goal roll.

Shell casing, huh... according to Danish law, I can not even posses one of those, as they fall under the weapons law.

Nice little project. I wish that I'll soon find my CiCar rulebook that seems to have gone missing during our move...
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

As it turns out I removed the "vase" from the altar. It was a little too tall and, more importantly, I want to use the altar in family mausoleums that have sealed for a couple of centuries. Fresh flowers just wouldn't fly.

Here are some photos of the altar and font painted.

Looks fantastic!! :o

These little scratchbuild Details are the "eyecatcher" on the Gametable!
After lurking between your different Battlereports many times, i could not resist
and ordered the CiC Rules and some Minis!
Now, i try to make Buildings for a little Village, still using some of your wonderful ideas for scenery.
Thank's for sharing your fantastic work!

Dry, withered ones would  :) But the altar looks very nice as is, anyway.

My rulebook just surfaced, and so did my printout of the alternative warband rules. It might be time for dusting off my long overdue CiCar project and get a Treasure Hunter and a Werewolf band ready.... If I can find the minis I selected for them...  ::)

Will mean I have to pause the KoW project (that has been forced into a long pause by real life events, anyway), hmmm... fewer minis to paint for CiCar, before a game can be run.

Glad to see you ordered the rules Hombre. I'm sure you won't regret it. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

And Argonor, you should definitely put everything else on hold in favour of CinCar
