Fury of Dracula, excellent game recently reissued with different mechanics that change the play style and balance. The earlier version is much better (and much more expensive)
Talisman, originally dull after a couple of plays, now dull straight from the box. Roll and move game with tedious game length.
Battlecars, fun but fiddly by today's standards. Better than Car Wars.
Warrior Knights, sub Kingmaker warring Barons game. New version available.
Warlock, Good duelling wizards game but dated now.
Apocalypse, a gem of a game, world domination in the nuclear age. Brilliant mechanics and a lot of fun.
Valley of the Four Winds, too complicated and fiddly now, don't bother.
Judge Dredd, yes!
Block Mania, no.
Blood Royale, Overly long dynasty building game set in medieval Europe, unbalanced with an excruciatingly tedious endgame.
Chainsaw Warrior, solo game, great title crap game.
Cosmic Encounter, brilliant space colonising game. Buy this. Recently reissued in a great format. Several versions available, avoid the Avalon Hill version.
Kings and Things, good game, recently reissued, a bit long and fiddly and not as funny as it likes to think.
Railway Rivals, classic great railway game. Available in other formats.

Italicised games are GW originals, others are licenced and often better. There are others but I haven't played them.
+1 as the kids write nowadays :)
Except for Cosmic Encounter's AH-edition which I actually enjoyed, and Chainsaw warriors which I've never played :(

I had Doom of the Eldar and loved it.  Not a miniatures board game, had cardboard counters.

And 'nids, don't forget the nids. :)

Love Space Hulk to bits. Our gaming group loves to play it weekly, and I have to disagree. The map layout has nothing to do with who wins. Sure it makes it more likely for one side, but there's been plenty of times the SM player would beat the par simply because they were fast and efficient.
Everything is better with lizardmen.

For me its got to be HeroQuest, though Im not sure how much of the rules were down to GW as Ive heard that when Hasbro bought MB they took the ruleset and mixed in Wizards D&D and brought out the Dungeons and Dragon's board game by Parker (which Im still kicking myself that i didnt pick up a copy at SmoggyCon, saw loads!)

Blood Bowl. Seriously, it goes beyond simple board gaming - it's fantastic!

You got that right, friend!

I'm over 2,000(yes. 2,000+) blood bowl/fantasy football figures and the only ones I don't collect is "sideline staff"(coaches, cheerleaders, etc).

I do quite like REF figures, tho. ;)

:o

it... lives... again...

But hey; while I'm at it, let me throw in my two cents as well:

Hero Quest, Space Crusade and Space Hulk are pretty much staple of course.

But I also really enjoy Lost Patrol (as frustrating as it can be when playing scouts :D ).

And now for my contributions to the list:

- Doom of the Eldar
- Horus Heresy
- Battle for Armageddon

All are true boardgames, in that they're all large board games, with no miniatures, but loads and loads of card chits. Gives them a true eighties feel (they might actually be from back then too...). pretty old school at any rate.

I've never played the FFG version of Horus Heresy though. It's pretty, with all those miniatures, but I hear the gameplay is less than the original...  :?
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Talisman was ok but not exactly intellectual. The additional sets were appalling - clompletely imbalanced the game (one of the add-ons meant you could finish the game in 1 move, giving playing time less than set-up time)

Which expansion was that? So that I don't buy it.  ;)

Seeing as this thread is back from the dead, I think it only right to include this review of Heroquest  lol

Since posting on here that I am a siimpleton (still the case!); I have played Doom of the Eldar and Lost Patrol.

Can confirm they are both good fun.

Oh and Space Fleet is good for a laugh! Must play again soon.

Some of the early GW boardgames are classics. Many of which have been reprinted by FFG.  In particular I'd hunt down a copy of Fury of Dracula.  With the end of the relationship between FFG and GW its no longer in print but only came out recently.  It's really an excellent game.  Full of theme but mechanically excellent as well.

GW have recently reissued Space Hulk.  Another classic and includes some brilliant miniatures.
