Rules Idea: Elephant Gun
« on: November 06, 2010, 12:58:39 AM »
Elephant Gun
Range: 10" , Rate: 2D , Damage: 1D+4 , Special: Ready / Power / Recoil , BP: +2

Special Weapon Rules
Recoil - The model using this weapon will be pushed back D3 inches directly away from the target model.

(An ideal weapon for some of those eccentric British Threshold agents.)

What do people think ?

EDIT: As there is an official Elephant Gun in the pipeline I won't be progressing this idea any further.

It was  brought up in a other post and they looking into it, think the right term would be large bore hunting rifle.

As the term elephant gun does encompass several types of guns, I should have perhaps given an example, rather than just a link to Wikipedia.

I don't mean the later high velocity or "express" hunting rifles, I meant  the earlier muzzle loading oversized blunderbusses.

The sort of weapon that in comedy films the Victorian Explorer fires and is thrown onto the ground or back 10ft feet or more (usually in a large cloud of smoke).

My design thoughts were that it was an oversized shotgun, firing a large single projectile, with a kick like a mule.

As I recall, the Shocking Tales #2 version is pretty much what you'd expect: insanely powerful, horribly inaccurate and rather expensive.  Do like the recoil idea though.  It'd certainly prevent you from setting up shop on top of a tower and sniping, unless you want to have a quick trip back to ground level!

Some kind of heavy gun sounds alright. However, the recoil sounds excessive. 3 inches is something like 4-5m in this scale. If a non-comedy agent is thrown back that much after taking a proper firing position (Ready action), he should have a fair chance of getting an Arm Wound on top of that. It's still a gun, not a cannon or cosmic blaster.

Then again, wounded and fully equipped agents can jump 6" (9m) forwards and 1" (1.5m) upwards so the physics may be somewhat strange in these aeons too.

Don't overdo the recoil thing:
A 4 gauge black powder muzzle-loading gun has a much softer recoil than for instance a more 'modern' 600 Nitro express rifle.
Panic, Chaos and Disorder. My job here is done
